rewatched the church - the soavi film for the first time in years
    yesterday.
the years have made me like it more, it's still daft, it still makes no
    sense but it's great fun.

It's Soavi - beautiful but sometimes nonsensical

Never, ever managed to get around to this one. Pretty sure that the only Soavi effort I've seen is DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE, which is in my top ten films of any kind. If his other work is as pretty as that one, it's worth a look, daft or not.

I disliked this film intensely, dull, slow and boring. Long periods
where nothing happens, things happening for no reason, but nothing seems
    to come of it.

Spent the entire film waiting for something to happen, except it didn't.

One guy gets possessed, kills someone, then everyone is just sat around
    like nothing happened?

    Also, something about a goat?

And what was with the intro that looked like it was ripped off Monty
Python and the Holy Grail, complete with Terry Gilliam look-a-like???

The Sect is still on my to be watched pile. I absolutely loved his other 3 horror films, including The Church.

Nope. Never seen a legit copy and have honestly never bothered to purloin one from the torrents, mostly because I'm uncertain as to whether it's more slasher or giallo. I'm not much of a fan of the former and the latter is marginal, despite the existence of some exceptional (if not sublime) examples.

It's kinda both, the surrealism and illogical plot of the giallo with a
lot of the trashy hardline violence of the slasher. It is beautiful, but
if two-dimensional characters getting offed brutally isn't your cup of
tea - then you won't dig it.

Bugger it. I'll give it a go. If I can find a torrent, that is.
