But seriously, if you've seen the other Purge films you know what to
expect.
Whilst I enjoyed it and thought it was a fun film. It's political
sub-text was glaringly obvious. They might as well have used "black
lives matter" as the films tag line.
Pretty much the entire lead cast, who are black, are portrayed as
either heroes or victims.
Indeed, the character who emerges as the main "good guy" is shown
early on in the film to be the biggest gang leader and drug dealer in
that part of New York city, which is a strange choice of hero.
Wheras pretty much all the "bad" guys appear to be white and there are
none too subtle swipe at white nationalists and govt institutions.
Purgers dressing up in Klan robes, one killer (actually a govt hired mercenary) is unmasked and is shown to have blond hair and blue eyes.
The leader of one of the mercenary groups (who kinda looks like Alec
Baldwin) stalks about in an SS style black trenchcoat.
Also there a scene where half a dozen purgers are dressed as
motorcycle cops, preparing to go "Rodney King" on some poor black guy.
Not to mention the numerous sideways swipes that appear to be aimed at
a certain prominent US politician.
I know film makers have been putting "subtle" political and social
commentary in their films for years, but lately it seems to be getting
a lot less subtle.
Anyway, if you can ignore all that and just watch it as a good popcorn
film, then go for it.
So facile a concept that surely Donald Trump will bring it in as a
policy.

Yes, I recall the new film(s) being heavily criticised on a number of
