Aaaaa, you can't beat an old classic.

Just gave this one a rewatch. For those of you who have yet to
experience the delights of CHUD, a New York City police detective
uncovers evidence that there's something nasty lurking under the
streets, following a recent spate of dissapearances.

A guy who runs one of the city's homeless shelters and his photographer friend are looking into why so many of his regulars, who live in the
storm drains, haven't been showing up lately. Only to discover nasty creatures with glowing eyes and discarded government equipment in the
tunnels below, as if the authorities already know whats going on.

With the mayor seemingly involved in some sort of cover up, they
struggle to get him to take any action against these Cannibalistic,
Humanoid, Underground Dwellers. Until they wipe out one of the
detectives SWAT teams, who are armed with flamethrowers, which forces
his hand. But with the CHUD on the march, we find they're not the only
thing the Mayor has been covering up.

A huge hit on home video back in the mid-80s, that version missed out
several dialogue scenes, most notable where we discover one of the first victims of the CHUDs happens to be the detectives wife, which is why
he's so interested in the case. It also moved a key scene, in which a
couple of cops, played by John Goodman and US TV actor Jay Thomas, are attacked by CHUDs in a diner to the end of the film, indicating the
CHUDs were not all killed. Whereas in the original version, this scene
takes place midway through the film and is the catalyst that forces the
mayor to do something about the CHUDs.

Current disc releases put these scenes back in their original order and re-instate the dialogue scenes, which was the directors preffered cut of
    the film.

Its relatively easy to get hold of on disc, and is extremely good for a low-mid budget production. Personally, I love it and think it's terrific
fun. The less said about it's comic sequel "CHUD 2 : Bud the Chud" the
    better though!

    A glass of cider, though!

The commentary track is hilarious. A must listen for fans of the film.
