• Netlfix: ANNIHILATION

Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and her off Westworld (no, not Dolores, the other one) lead a rag-tag pack of paramilitary-type women (it's
2018 people - why not?) to investigate a weird phenomenon rainbow thing
that threatens to ANNIHILATE humanity by turning our young men into bronies.

I'm liking this style of sci-fi horror at the moment especially with its half- arsed (come on ladies, lift your squad tactics) dose of military. Talky
and thoughtful with the occasional mutant animal ripping someone's head off.

    SPOILERS

The first time ever in the history of film the US military don't try just dropping a bomb in it, and it turns out it would have worked. Typical.

It was one of those that I thought I'd be able to tolerate and could use
when unexpectedly engaged in chit-chat. It has served me well.

The only part I liked was the zombie-bear thing with the woman's screams.

I expected, and wanted, to like this one. I found it kind of dull. Otoh I didn't like Ex Machina the first time either, and now I think it's pretty amazing. Took a more informed and observant second viewing. I may read
the novel Annihilation is based on before tackling it again.

The magic resistance that any kind of mutant animal has in movies is a constant annoyance to me. In real life a farmer can kill a 5 meter crocodile with
a bog standard rifle but in films scary animals are immune to assault rifles that can punch through kevlar.

You got to be in the mood for slow, and I was. Been meaning to see EX
MACHINA for a while and had no idea it was directed by Garland, or in fact
    that he'd directed anything.
