The Life of Jacinta Maria Helen Bradley nee Daly
A brief bio by her big brother Daniel
Copyright 2015
Jacinta was born on the 8th of January 1974, the same birthday as Elvis Presley. She was born in Cooma hospital, where her brother's Greg and Matt and sister Brigid was also born. Her brother Daniel (myself) was born in Hull Maternity hospital in England.
I do remember Jacinta's very early years in Berridale, where we first lived (the three after Brigid, as she was in Jindabyne in very early youth like Matt). Jacinta was always a peacemaker in the family, and had a soft heart. We played around as kids,
and once, when we went and raided the Anglican church next door and threw stuff
around everywhere, which I didn't get involved with personally, but remained outside, I think Jacinta was probably involved. She and Brigid had the girls room in Berridale,
and they shared the girls room in Cooma also, as well as in Macarthur for a little while if I recall rightly. Jacinta did most of her schooling at St Pats,
like all of us, but went to Padua Catholic High school in her later years when we moved to
Tuggeranong in 1990. We were traditional boys with boys stuff growing up, and the girls were traditional girls. They had dolls and girly things, and Jacinta was a regular type of kid of the 1980s. I think she was semi-popular in school - I don't know for
sure - but seemed to be friendly enough with Sonia Veneables, who I think remains a friend to this day, as she currently lives in Cooma again. For the life of me I can't really recall who Jacinta's teachers were at St Pats, but she probably shared one or
two of them with me, but I can't recall. Jacinta went on all the family holidays with us as kids, and she probably spent most of her time with Brigid, but I spent a lot of time with her as well. Jacinta didn't like it when mum and
dad argued, and tried
to appease the situation, and shows her qualities in this. Mum has a favourite photo of Jacinta from when she was young and we stayed at Uncle Peter's place in Sydney (dad's brother). I think Jacinta was probably friends with Wing and Yang Lam, who were
Vietnamese kids in school who our family was a little bit involved with. I can't recall the tape cassettes she owned as a kid for sure, but she probably had Wham albums, as she is a big George Michael fan. These days she has a large
CD and Video
collection built up from earlier years, and is a big fan of Harrison Ford, especially his Indiana Jones movies. Growing up, technically Jacinta and Brigid's Rugby League teams were both Parramatta, but they weren't really caught up in it like me and Greg.
These days I think she supports the Bulldogs a bit, as Alan her husband is a mad Bulldog fan, and Ronan her son likes the doggies as well, but I think he also has a soft spot for the rabbitohs. Jacinta would watch the videos we watched as kids, and the
TV like the rest of us, and would be found in her room a lot playing with her own things. As a family we were in fact around the dinner table in most of our Cooma years, in the kitchen, but this became very casual in the late 1980s and in Canberra we
just sat wherever for our meals, and very rarely sat at a table together. I think we all chilled out a bit in the 1990s. Jacinta supports Hawthorn in the AFL, just like me, but again she is not mad on sports terribly much, but likes to chat about Alan's
obsession a bit. She had friends in Padua, Debbie Messina and Katie Snell, who I ironically both worked with later on in DEETYA, just before my AQIS job. She was friendly with them for years afterwards, but time drifts on she has gradually lost contact
with them. Her first boyfriend (that I am aware of anyway, or at least of any significance) was Darren, who she was going to marry at one stage. Darren, really, was quite a good bloke, and I had a positive impression of him, but it just didn't work out
ultimately. It's not great matter, though, because while mum has an issue that Alan is a bit too controlling, like me she thinks he's a good enough bloke, and
I think he is a responsible family man. Jacinta went all the way to the end of year 12 as I
recall, and I think she did childcare studies afterwards and worked in childcare for a while. She worked at Blinky Bills (I think that is its name) childcare in Gowrie for a while, and has lived out of home at different places.
She Met Alan sometime in
the early 2000s probably, but it might have been sooner, and very soon after they met they moved in with each other. It turned out to be the right thing, because they seemed to have gelled, and stuck together. They had their first child, Ronan, out of
wedlock, but when he was a few years old they married. So he's legit now. They have lived in Isabella Plains in Tuggeranong, as well as in Monash, and finally
decided on moving to Cooma, where Alan works for Centrelink, currently in out of town training
jobs I think, or something like that. They seem quite close to each other, and appear to get along, and the marriage seems to be a good one. Jacinta learned to drive a few years back, which has impressed me greatly, as I wasn't sure if she would ever
have enough confidence to handle a car. But she can drive competently, and as time passes in life Jacinta is becoming both wise and experienced. She currently works for Coles in Cooma in the deli or checkout I think, and the family, after living in Cooma
East and Cooma North, have finally managed to buy a home (with mum's help) in Cooma North. In my own life, when mum finally passes, I have a decision to either live with my sister Brigid here in Canberra, or buy a home or flat in Cooma. If I did choose
Cooma in the end, Cooma North is usuaally my choice, regardless of Jacinta also
living there, and we could potentially end up living close to each other, depending on what I can afford. Of course, I grew up in Cooma also for the entire 1980s, so living
there again later on in life is one of the most realistic choices available to me, and is not dependant on Jacinta living there also. But I could end up down the road from her in just natural choices of my own in life. Jacinta also has two daughters,
Amelia and Rachael. They are great kids, very friendly, and attend the Cooma North Public School. Jacinta is a big fan of 'Twilight' - the Vampire saga which is popular - and has read all the books. I adored the movies myself, but never got around to
reading the books. She also likes traditional Romance types of novels, often ones with burly scottish celtic types of fellas. She wanted a highlander to marry when she was bit younger - I think she might possibly have developed this
fantasy from the
Highlander movie, which we all loved as kids, but I don't know for sure. But, of course, Alan is a Scot, and wore a kilt at their wedding. She got what she was after in the end. Jacinta was brought up Catholic, and has pretty much remained one all her
life. I am not really sure how much she goes to church these days, and the kids
were baptized in the Uniting Church as I recall, probably because that might have suited Alan a bit better. She does read the bible occasionally, and was involved with
Hepzibah, the Charismatic Catholic movement, here in Canberra for a while. I went to a Caloola farm retreat with her once, when I had returned to Catholic faith in the mid 1990s for about 6 months, and it was a great time. First contact with Hillsong
praise music, and I remember asking 'What about this born again message'? I was
answered it was about an awakening. Very interesting. Jacinta is mostly busy with family life these days, and work, and making it all run smoothly. She is generally probably
a pretty busy lady, with not a great deal of time for other things, but she remains a great gal, a good sister, and life wouldn't be the same without this loving daughter of Cyril and Mary Daly. She's my sis, and I'm proud to have her
as one.
