Brandon McCormick, 57, has not yet entered a plea to two counts of
possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, aggravated
assault and threatening to use a weapon during a fight, the Deseret News reported Tuesday. All of the charges are third-degree felonies.
Officials say that McCormick loaded an arrow and aimed it toward
demonstrators protesting the death of George Floyd in Salt Lake City on
May 30.
The incident occurred shortly after McCormick yelled “all lives matter”
and used the N-word toward the protesters, officials said. He did not
injure anyone before a group swarmed and attacked him.
In a hearing on Tuesday, McCormick asked 3rd District Judge Paul Parker
to reduce his $100,000 bond.
“Sir, in the past, I was a jackass,” he said. “I was a drug addict, I’ve
made poor choices.”
Parker declined his request, saying McCormick was recently convicted of
assault and drove out of his way to get to the protest that day.
