The decision by 43 Republican senators to acquit Donald Trump in his
second impeachment trial has been condemned by many observers as a racist
    vote which upholds white supremacy.

The former president was tried this week for his role in inciting the 6
January insurrection at the US Capitol, where his many of his followers
waved Confederate flags and wore racist and antisemitic clothing and
    symbols while storming the building.

In his speech before the riot, Trump exhorted his followers to “fight” the vote and called his mostly white audience “the people that built this nation”. His efforts to overturn the election results concentrated in
cities with large populations of Black voters who drove Biden’s win.

Kimberly Atkins, a senior opinion writer at the Boston Globe, tweeted that
the mob was trying to stop the votes of Black people like her from being counted.

Atkins said: “When this is done at the urging of the president of the
United States, the constitution provides a remedy – if members of the
House and Senate abide by their oaths. A republic, if you can keep it. Is
    it a republic for me?”

The Washington Post’s global opinions editor, Karen Attiah, said: “White supremacy won today.”

“History will reflect that leaders on both sides of the aisle enabled
white extremism, insurrection and violence to be a permissible part of our politics,” Attiah added. “America is going to suffer greatly for this.”

For Trump to be found guilty, 67 senators needed to vote for his
conviction. The former president was acquitted in a 57 to 43 vote on
Saturday afternoon. The Senate is 89% white.

After the vote, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer addressed the chamber
and said it was an “incontrovertible fact” that Trump was guilty and implored the audience to “remember the hateful and racist Confederate flag flying through the halls of our union” during the insurrection.

Trump’s lawyer, Michael van der Veen, in his closing statement equated the Capitol insurrection with Black Lives Matter protests last summer,
repeatedly referring to those demonstrators as a “mob”.

“Black people can’t object to a knee on our necks or kids getting pepper-sprayed, but whiteness protects its own,” the Rev Jacqui Lewis
tweeted after the vote. “This is who America is, and it’s who we’ve always
been. And we need to decide if we want to be something different.”

A professor of history, race and public history at Harvard University,
Khalil Gibran Muhammad, said Trump’s acquittal made Biden’s election look similar to Abraham Lincoln’s 1861 election win, which was followed by the civil war a few months later.

“Trump is now the head of the neo-Confederacy, formerly called the
Republican party. This is a party made up of people whose ideological
ancestors have always been well represented in all levels government, and society. Let’s be clear, this is an America that has always been,”
    Muhammad said.

Brittney Cooper, the author of Eloquent Rage: a Black Feminist Discovers
her Superpower, said the impeachment trial reminded her of when white
juries would rarely convict their peers for lynchings. “Those jurists are political ancestors of the modern GOP,” Cooper tweeted. “It’s shameful, not to mention enraging.”

“Also to the liberal white people frustrated as the House managers
presented an air tight case against a white supremacist insurrection to no avail, I say: welcome,” Cooper added. “This is what it feels like to
scream into the wind. Black folks know it well. As you can see, it truly sucks.”

    ### - well you've really gone and done it now! LOL ! :D :D :D

plus i don't think there's now any coming back from it either?? thus a
    step too far!

it was always 'covert' before see? the very 'reason' no one ever wanted to
talk about it and felt uncomfortable doing so, and have thus always tried
to sweep it all under the carpet... the huge + growing 'hump' in the
middle of that carpet everyone always had to gingerly tiptoe around and
pretend just wasn't there hah! (wot hump?? to paraphrase chris lol) but
thus also the opportunity to change and to get actually rid of it before
    it 'came' out!

only NOW there's no need to hide it any longer! it's all become
    completely: 'overt'

via a bullhorn to the world: this is how we... ARE!!!

and of course, as history has shown us time & time again, this perforce
spells the beginning of the end for america as the greatest power on
earth, their 15 minutes of fame basically squandered, in almost exactly
the same fashion on a smaller scale, as having the sympathy of the whole
world behind them was squandered after 9-11; by spending it all on
attacking iraq and declaring war on terror!

iow: in 'war' and 'despotism' instead of advancement to genuine world leaders/heroes with the whole world cheering behind them as they've always imagined themselves to be in all those superhero comic books, it's
actually all very sad! especially for the world!?

and they can't say either that they didn't have 'every' opportunity to
change things, coz they did at this sooo very public trial, but totally
    blew it!

smile, if you can't understand all this (and you probably can't heh) and
you want/need an 'image' of what's actually happened and transpired, all
you have to think about to get things very clearly in mind is to remember
the faces and demeanors of those lawyers on both sides during the trial ok?

i.e., on one side the almost broken-hearted + utterly appalled team,
choking with embarrassment and shame at how America could have EVER come
to this!? a potentially repentant america only too willing to change and
to go forward! versus: the angry, stomping & demanding, indignant
gangsters on the other side affirming it was all in fact "very
    appropriate"??

could it even BE any clearer than that for anyone?? the nasty angry face
of that van-veem dude versus the educated humour + obvious intelligence of people who've dedicated their whole lives to the whole business of
    defending the hallowed constitution!

coz THAT's what ya just exactly voted for see? the gangsters!

THAT's the ROAD they've chosen to go down! that's what trumpy (and now the whole of the right-wing too in one accord) openly represent! (+ cue the
    gradual edging-out of the 7 repub-rebels who didn't toe the party-line? guaranteed!)

coz make no mistake: that's a road that has always but always
    traditionally led... down!

inevitably, at least the way i sees things anyway heh, the seat of power
will perforce now shift away from america to someplace else in the world,
to some 'other' center of world power, be that wherever it may be,
probably china lol! how ironic! (well they's the only one's with all the
money now innit heh, so who else could it be! russia doesn't really have
any such expansionist interests, it just wants to be left alone to play
neutral and is sick of war, while islam is currently still reeling on the
ropes and too dizzy to reorganise itself; so it must be china then innit!
no one else is big enough to even wear that crown!)

as for what's likely gonna happen to america itself: it does indeed look
like civil war? inevitably so! the minority-right has all the money,
weapons, police & media etc, but the majority left has the greater
numbers! (which is precisely why & how they actually won that last
election: they were agitated enough + annoyed enough to actually exert themselves to APPLY those numbers! plus it's the numbers that ultimately
won it for them in the end! see?)

see how it's gonna likely all play-out then?

how it's actually 'already' in fact gone!!! coz that first step has now
    been oh-so publicly taken!

we can THEN refer to history as to how things typically tend to go after that...

and it ain't ever been... good!? (hitler took that same road for example!)

sigh, it's always very sad to watch a good opportunity missed huh...

the thorn in humanity's side no less: it's own goddamned stupidity, greed
    & blindness lol :)))

"hey, i found a bloody big valuable diamond but i lost it! d'oh!"

plus cue that story of that dude standing next to me in the bank, saying:
"am amazed we actually even GOT this far!" - mr harbinger himself no less!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6gF81th4Og

    "...the point of no return"

so china next then eh? a chinese hybrid-world!

lol we'll all have gadgets up the wazoo by the time they's finished with
    us hah!

    damn! :D
