    ### - cool pics (lower down this page) of a 'haloed' sun (red rings around
    the sun...)

very unusual phenomenon this, experts (i.e., priests of weather science
heh) saying they've never seen such a halo around the sun like this
    before...

plus yeah yeah, dust whatever, they always find 'some' explanation for everything!

lol they HAVE to! - it's their job! - even when they're often wrong :)))

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-41635906

(ain't sayin' they're completely wrong in this instance btw, just
commenting on how they always but always immediately leap to profess to
know what's happening & why; even when they've never seen it before??)

but we trust 'em don't we folks! after all, science rules :)

According to the Met Office, the red sun is caused by winds pulling up >Saharan dust.

This dust is then reflected and refracted in longer wavelengths, giving a
    red appearance to the sky.

Some areas have been forced to turn on street lights in the middle of the
day as the dust partially blocked out the sun.

Sharon Derrick shared a video of the sun over Bristol and said: "Bristol >looks like the film The Red Planet... the weather is bizarre."

One woman wrote on Instagram: "It looks like the apocalypse is coming!
Anyone else seen the amazing red sun due to the dust storm from the
Azores? That combined with the really warm, strong winds, make it feel
very eerie outside today! Keep safe everyone".

Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge said the former hurricane is pulling
air and dust up from southern Europe and Africa.

"It's all connected with Ophelia, on the eastern side of the low pressure >system air is coming up in the southern direction," he said.

it certainly 'looked' like the end of the world here today!

battening down the hatches here boss, looks like there's a storm coming!

    80km/hr? A mere breeze...

Yep, 80m/hr (not 80km/hr) is a stiff zephyr indeed. However, I spent
the first 18 years of my life in Far North Queensland where I
experienced 29 cyclones of which Althea which hit Townsville in
Christmas Eve 1971 was the one which sticks in my memory (I was going
to James Cook Uni at the time and living in Townsville):

    http://www.windworker.com.au/windworker_history.htm

Here's some historic photos. Note the wind gusts were up to 218km/hr
which is 135 m/ph. I remember being driven to the Uni after it hit
and split level homes were lining the road with the upper level
missing and only pipes with bathtubs hanging off them remaining.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s68Hk1STqLU

At 1.47 you can see the roofs starting to come off.

Now *that's* a zephyr, and I lived it (ahh, memories...)
