The governor of Minnesota has announced the full mobilisation of the
state’s National Guard - a first in the state’s history - as America is convulsed by protests over the killing of George Floyd.
The announcement means that 13,000 national guard members could be on the streets.
The National Guard responded on Twitter: “We are ‘all-in’ to restore order
and maintain and keep the peace in Minnesota.”

There have been demonstrations in more than 30 cities across the country, including in Detroit where a 19-year-old protester was killed when a man
pulled up to the protests in a car, and fired into the crowd.
In Oakland, California, a federal security guard was also killed during
the chaos.
Minneapolis had declared an 8pm curfew for Friday night in a bid to quell
the unrest, but that was widely ignored.
New York City also saw dozens of arrests after protesters attempted to
storm a police precinct in Brooklyn, while in Atlanta demonstrators
attacked the CNN headquarters, and the mayor of the city desperately
appealed for calm.
Derek Chauvin, who killed Floyd, was charged with third degree murder and manslaughter on Friday, but that has not defused the protests.
Donald Trump warned protesters that they would be met with "vicious dogs"
if they scaled the White House fence
Minnesota's governor admitted law enforcement in the city could not cope
and announced full mobilisation of the state’s National Guard for the
first time in history
In Oakland, California, two Federal Protective Services officers guarding
a government building were shot when a gunman opened fire from a vehicle
A Fox News reporter was pummeled and chased by protesters who had gathered outside the White House on Saturday as part of nationwide unrest following
the death of George Floyd.
It follows a television reporter in Columbia, South Carolina, who was hurt
by a thrown rock on Saturday and a journalist in Minneapolis who was shot
in the thigh by a rubber bullet. Demonstrators also broke windows and vandalised the Atlanta office building where CNN is headquartered, and
police in Louisville, Kentucky, apologised after an officer fired what
appeared to be pepper bullets at a television news crew.
Fox's Leland Vittert said was clearly targeted at his news organisation.
"We took a good thumping," he told The Associated Press. A live shot he
was doing was interrupted by a group of protesters who shouted obscenities directed at Fox.
### - protests now in 30 cities? the national guard??
and with trumpy threatening to release the hounds if they dare come over
the fence haha...
this was all just very bad timing wasn't it huh; the wrong damn thing
happening at the wrong damn time?
everyone already stressed to the limit after weeks of lockdown; what if it doesn't stop!
time for everyone to go do some 'unrestricted' shopping maybe? (j/k)
yield and win the battle glasshopper! i mean what's a few tv's, groceries
& burned buildings gonna cost compared to the 'billions' that have already
been doled-out coz of this virus shit anyway huh? let it burn itself out...
and 'coz confronting 'em head-on might only wind 'em all up even more?
"we will not confront them (the british) directly as that would only
further inflame their already inflamed will; passive resistance is the
right way now" --gandhi ;)
