    Hmm. :)

But okay, let's talk about shame.

Americans own nearly half of civilian-owned guns worldwide (48%) -
averaging 89 guns per 100 people.

The U.S. makes up less than 5% of the world's population,
yet has 31% of the world's major mass-shooting incidents.

We have 6 times as many mass shootings as Russia does,
and 5 times as many the Philippines (Numbers 2 and 3 worldwide).
We have 9 times as many mass shootings as France (Number 5).

Gun homicides are on average 25 times higher in the U.S.
than in other high income nations.

Americans are over 50 times more likely to be killed by gunfire
than people in the United Kingdom.

Guns kill nearly 1,300 children each year in the U.S.

The only countries in the world with more shootings relative
to populace size than the U.S. are in Central and South America.
    (El Salvador, Honduras, and Venezuela)

    ***

Australia has not experienced a mass shooting since the 1996
Port Arthur massacre, and credits stricter gun control laws
enacted after that incident for the dramatic drop.

Last week, Australia concluded a three-month national gun
amnesty, in which people could surrender their unregistered,
illegal or unwanted firearms to local authorities without fear
of penalty or prosecution. More than 26,000 firearms were turned in.

Gun related homicides and suicides have dropped by over 60%
in Australia (over what they were before stricter gun control).

yeah screw guns! - machetes for everyone!

    riiiiight... :)

kill each other in the civil war - no other country has had such

But there's so much hypocrisy, unfairness, inequality, contempt,
crassness, greed and need I go on - that is it any wonder people feel
left out and powerless and they want to make their MARK.

This guy got even. He made his mark. He left a message for all you americans. That's what you guys just do not get.

He didn't leave any message. He had a bunch of cryptic numbers written
down on a piece of paper. Was he so petty he just wanted 15 minutes
of fame? Did he hate music festivals for some strange reason? :)
(Evidently he checked into hotels across from 2 other music festivals,
and he complained about loud country music downstairs from him at the
hotel twice the night before he shot up a country music festival.)

You think he "got even" for inequality, unfairness, and hypocrisy.
I don't think so. This guy had been relatively rich for some time.

Gun homicides are on average 25 times higher in the U.S.
than in other high income nations.

So what? You needed guns and plowshares and pitchforks and bricks and
cannon in order to (a) kill the redcoats; (b) kill the cowboys; (c)
kill each other in the civil war - no other country has had such
bloodshed in its short history as the US. What do you fucking well
    EXPECT??

If I lived in the US, I would have a nice arsenal too :)

I haven't owned a gun since I was a kid. Most of my friends don't
have one either. Apparently, we're exceptions rather than the rule.

Australia has not experienced a mass shooting since the 1996
Port Arthur massacre, and credits stricter gun control laws
enacted after that incident for the dramatic drop.

Last week, Australia concluded a three-month national gun
amnesty, in which people could surrender their unregistered,
illegal or unwanted firearms to local authorities without fear
of penalty or prosecution. More than 26,000 firearms were turned in.

Gun related homicides and suicides have dropped by over 60%
in Australia (over what they were before stricter gun control).

You're comparing apples and oranges, chalk and cheese. Australia
never had a war of independence, a civil war, unbidled aggression and
crime like the wild west - we don't have bloodshed sewn into our genes
like you yanks. I admire the yanks for that actually and I would hate
to see your guns go just because of a few nutcases like this guy.

The stats show Australia had higher violence prior to gun control.

I've lived in the US for over 6 decades, yet have never been involved
in an incident of gun violence, and what's more have never had a
single friend involved in an incident of gun violence that I knew of.
My father never was involved in gun violence either. Nor were any
    of his three brothers.

My dad used to have a rifle he kept in the trunk of our car when
I was a kid. He went duck hunting once in a while and I remember
him shooting a few snakes when we were on fishing trips. That gun
was gone and he had stopped hunting by the time I was a teenager.

I think it's weird to imagine that the people are violent here now
due to wars that ended centuries ago. That sounds like some kind
of superstition. Also, the widespread belief in the alleged violence
of the American West is something of a myth.

    Hmm. :)

But okay, let's talk about shame.

Americans own nearly half of civilian-owned guns worldwide (48%) -
averaging 89 guns per 100 people.

The U.S. makes up less than 5% of the world's population,
yet has 31% of the world's major mass-shooting incidents.

Yet the US is the world's third most populous country. China, India
then the US at 340 million.

We have 6 times as many mass shootings as Russia does,
and 5 times as many the Philippines (Numbers 2 and 3 worldwide).

americans. That's what you guys just do not get.

He didn't leave any message. He had a bunch of cryptic numbers written
down on a piece of paper.

They weren't cryptic, they were calculations by a numbers-man
(beancounter) such as to derive the trajectories and firing locations
to maximise fatalities. Why did you assume they were "cryptic"? I
didn't think you, my intelligent friend, would jump to conclusions
    like that :(

A delay in releasing the meaning of the numbers doesn't add mystery...

Was he so petty he just wanted 15 minutes
of fame? Did he hate music festivals for some strange reason? :)

Why the smiley? So you can say later, after a response from me or
slider, that you didn't really mean this statement, you were jesting?
Like, you want to have it both ways? I see you Dave and I see through
    you too :)

I wouldn't call shooting half a thousand people "petty" Dave.

(Evidently he checked into hotels across from 2 other music festivals,
and he complained about loud country music downstairs from him at the
hotel twice the night before he shot up a country music festival.)

Nope. His bright idea was that music festivals in the US are the
ultimate in soft targets if surrounded by tall buildings. Bit like
the Texas Book Depository. He had nothing against festivals he had
lots and lots agains his fellow americans.

You think he "got even" for inequality, unfairness, and hypocrisy.
I don't think so. This guy had been relatively rich for some time.

Let Harry Chapin explain for me:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTXJu6qHtd8

"I've found a way that will get me an answer, I've been waiting to ask
you till now...reality poured down her face, pooling on the floor..."

Gun homicides are on average 25 times higher in the U.S.
than in other high income nations.

Your hypocrisy is a thousandfold that of most other countries...you
can have nuclear eapons, but others can't. You can invade countries
like Iraq on false pretexts but others can't. Of course if the
"others" are big and bad enough to do so with impunity and no fear of
the US, then the US backs down (eg Crimea).

Isn't that the definition of a bully?

I mean, you guys used nuclear weapons on civilians - women and
children - and bombed the living shit out of women and children in NK,
killing up to 1 in 5 of their population. Not to mention Dresden,
full of civilians, POW's and refugees and fuck all soldiers - no
reason at all to kill all those people in the closing stages of WW2 -
just read some of Kurt Vonnegut.

Isn't that the definition of hypocrisy?

Burst ya bubble Dave. Get out of the lies and bullshit you've been indoctrinated with. Stand on your own two feet.

So what? You needed guns and plowshares and pitchforks and bricks and

Sure are. But it's not the guns that are the problem in your country.
You need to think a little harder.

I'm imagining nothing. I'm recounting your past and the history of
your country. And you are not thinking clearly at all, which doesn't
do you the credit your mind obviously can.

You are confounding "gun ownership" and the violent fights for freedom
(against the British and against slavery) in the rock certain history
of the US with violence perpretated by a very few against masses of
innocents. They are three different things. I said that gun
ownership is totally based on the prior violence which has been sewn
into the genes of your country and I said I admire your country for
fighting for the ideals of freedom and independence and abolition of
slavery. I was talking about gun ownership.

Your country now is not a shadow of its former glory and its former
ideals are gone forever. Your country now is a fucking police state
filled with coppers and three letter agencies and spy on spy on spy
and your basic freedoms that your forefathers fought for are gone,
baby, gone. Yet you can't see that, can you?

Well if you can change your constitution, good luck on that. To
change our constitution takes such effort and such a high proportion
of votes from our population that it simply isn't worth the effort.
    Yours is probably the same.

I will say this. If I lived in the US I would not only own guns but I
would carry. At all times. Here, unfortunately, that basic right has
been taken from us by the police state which exists here, almost as
    bad as yours.
