A FORMER top Pentagon official has outlined what Australia needs to do to protect itself from a North Korean missile and says we should get ready.

AUSTRALIA must develop greater missile defences in the event of a strike
    from North Korea.

That’s the advice from Dr Brad Roberts, who served as US deputy assistant secretary of defence for nuclear and missile defence policy between 2009
    and 2013.

Dr Roberts, who is currently in Australia briefing officials about
regional threats, told the ABC it doesn’t have to be too costly.

“I don’t think it’s a large number of very expensive interceptors and radars deployed around the periphery of the Australian continent,” he
said. “A sea-based capability on the advanced destroyer that would include
a sea-based radar and some interceptors: that could operate in coalition partnership with other allies.”

“Unfortunately, Australia doesn’t really get to choose whether or not
North Korea threatens it — it’s the choice that the North Korean leader [Kim Jong-un] makes,” he said. “His objective is to make us fearful so
that our leaders will not stand up to his threats and coercion.”

Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne confirmed last month that the Government was considering upgrading the Navy’s new air warfare destroyers
    to include missile defence shields.

“In the Defence White Paper, and the integrated investment plan, upgrades
of the warfare destroyer capabilities have been already flagged,” Mr Pyne said.

    ### - sell a few incredibly expensive arms to australia in the meantime??

Mate we're so far away in Perth they would never reach us, nor would
they waste their precious fissile material on us. On the other hand,
if they took out the Yank base at Pine Gap or fucking Darwin in its
entirety, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing :)

I've been to Darwin a few times, I should know...

    got it? :)

For once you clearly stated your "point" so how *could* I miss it?
However, it was such an inane "point" that I chose not to respond - we
still have that freedom don't we?

You see shadows everywhere and you need to get out and about in the
fresh air one in a while. There's no conspiracy to sell us weapons -
you don't know Australians mate, we're not sheep about things like
that, only if the DPRK is naming cities as targets in Australia would
we need such weapons and why would we even then? The Yanks can
station some of their hardware here, we have the ANZUS treaty (well,
NZ dropped out so it's only us and the Yanks now) and we're bound to
join them if they are attacked and they us...

We don't forget easily. I don't much like the Yanks arrogance on the
world stage and nor do many other countries and I don't much like the
way the Yanks hit countries which can't fight back like Iraq and Libya
(try Russia or China and see how far you get lol) - however, they
helped save our arses from the Japs in the Battle of the Coral Sea,
without them I have no doubt we would be eating fucking rice now and
bowing before the Rising Sun - we lost ships in that battle too, along
with our Yankee friends who lost a carrier, but ultimately drew the
battle and then won the war.

This forced the Japs to invade New Guinea and everyone knows the story
of our Citizens Military Force (militia) which engaged them on the
Kokoda Trail in New Guinea and beat the little fuckers.

All this while we were helping you fucking Pommy cunts beat Rommel :)
I don't remember any Poms coming down this way to help US, matey. Only
    Yanks.

So, we are close and in fact the ONLY American ally to fight in every
    war beside them since WW2.
