so this is how it goes down, just like i type here.
the other day sent out a check with DMV renewal for
registration. Happens every year about this time.
No big deal huh? I check my online bank account
a few days later on the check i wrote. I thought we
wrote a check to the Department of Motor Vehicles for
$305 bucks. Sure you did. It comes back with an amount
for $415 made to a Britany Chacon for "school books?
Yep we just bought her $415 dollars worth of school books.
Like fuckin' bloody hell we did. The god damn motherfucker
'lifted' our check from (somehow-someway) and put in her
name and took to bank and hammered it. She even has her
fingerprint on the check. (they make you do this now)
She doesn't realize that the camera was rolling when she
stepped up to the windown to hammer this puppy. Bad choice.
See how that free will can destroy you? What a fucking dumb-ass.
Anyhow the bank is out $415, they gotta pay us back and they
will. They are good that way. Now i gotta go down to the police
dept. and file a stupid report. Of course they won't do shit
because they already 700 other bogus check shit sandwitches they
have to deal with. Whatever. IF they ever find her i am pressing
charges like a son of a bitch. But they won't. So life goes on.
Fun in the big city. Here is the name she used: Britney Chacon.
It belongs to some latina girl who sings or dances. She is well known.
It would be like me going to the bank and pretending i am Ginger Baker
or Leon Russell. Sure pal. Hey, "we'll see what happens". Un huh.

somehow gots hold of the card numbers and used 'em more than 200 miles away! didn't even know it was happening and was the bank that stopped it (they do that here if there's
any suspicious/unusual spending activity, but they still gots a grand before they did! luckily with no comeback on moi...)

bank's hounds were then unleashed upon 'em and never ever heard another word about it heh, cheeky fuckers eh? plus can only hope they gots away with it, unlikely tho' as the uk has more cctv cameras per head of population than anywhere else apparently

I ditched using cheques (you call them checks) around 10 years ago,
everything online now using HTTPS end to end encryption - standard
with ALL banks.

Use paper and weep, in other words.

As for being stitched up, I was in New Orleans in 1998 with my wife
and Amex. In an upper storey restaurant in the French Quarter I
stupidly let the waiter take my card away to pay for the meal.

We got home around a month or so later, after Europe. Around several
weeks later, I get a call from Amex. When did you get back to Oz? I
said the date. He said, that's good because your card was cloned
while you were overseas and the total bill before we killed the card
was $45K USD. Fuck me, I almost went over. He said, because you
weren't overseas when this was done, we know it was fraud and Amex
will cover you for every cent.

Now that's a fraud. I was very relieved. I haven't used the card for
a long time but still pay the annual $110 fee to keep it alive just in
case.
