The bombing was ordered just hours after North Korea launched three
ballistic missiles, with one flying over northern Japan.
Four F15K fighter jets were ordered to drop eight MK84 multipurpose bombs
on a shooting range near the North Korean border in Taebaek.
It is believed the bombing was ordered to prepare for further North Korean action.
The chief press secretary of South Korean president Moon Jae-in said: "We assessed North Korea’s provocations as extremely severe and decided to maintain a vigilant posture in preparation for the possibility of
additional provocations by North Korea."
South Korean officials also claim they have received the backing of US president Donald Trump.
Experts caught off guard by major North Korea missile development
Gen. Jeong Kyeong-doo, chairman of South Korea's has also agreed with the
US to receive long-range bombers to combat the North Korean threat.
Their bombing exercise came after Kim Jong-un's latest missile firing on
Monday night in Pyongyang.
A foreign affairs expert claimed that had Kim's missiles missed their
target by metres, it could have triggered world war 3.
