ISRAEL should act quickly to “eradicate any trace” of the Iranian military
from Syria, a former Israeli general has said.
Yoav Galant, Israel’s housing minister, has accused Iran of being “an imperialist terrorist nation” whose military is aiming to stoke tensions between Jerusalem and the Arab world.

Iran is attempting to “create an axis from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea” to “surround us and create a war of attrition”, the ex-Israeli army chief said.
Israel should “strike while the iron is hot” to curtail Iran’s military expansionism in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East, Galant, a member
of the high-level security cabinet, said.
“An opportunity has arisen for Israel to uproot Iran from Syria, and we’ll take advantage of this opportunity,” he told crowds at an event in Tel
Aviv on Saturday.
He added: “We’ll put the Iranian genie back in its bottle.”
A ferbile mood surrounds civil war-torn Syria, where on Thursday Israel
pounded Iranian military bases with missiles in response to an alleged
attack on the Israel-held Golan Heights.
Israel’s security cabinet believes Iran has got the message “and won’t mess with us in the near future”, Jerusalem officials told Hadashot TV on Friday.
Iran allegedly fired rockets at Israeli forces on Wednesday night in an
attack that has moved the two rival nations closer than ever to the brink
of war.
Israel responded by launching a blistering attack on Iranian
infrastructure in Syria, where Tehran is supporting Assad against the insurgency.
At least 11 Iranians were among those killed in unprecedented strikes by Israeli forces in Syria, according to war monitors.
A campaign of air assaults against Iranian military bases in Syria has
been going on for more than a month.
Relations between Jerusalem and Tehran have been on the rocks since
February when an Iranian drone heading towards Israeli airspace was shot
down.
Israel strikes Iranian targets in Syria in response to rocket fire
The fraught situation was made worse by US President Donald Trump, who on Tuesday pulled the US out of the deal preventing Iran from developing
nuclear weapons.
But rhetoric has reached fever pitch in recent days since Iran and Israeli traded salvos of missiles on Thursday – the first direct military confrontation since the start of the Syrian civil war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the strike, saying his fighter jets carried out a "very broad attack against Iranian targets in Syria".
"We are in the midst of a protracted battle and our policy is clear: We
will not allow Iran to entrench itself militarily in Syria," Netanyahu
said.
In response, senior Iranian cleric Ahmad Khatami said on Friday that if
Israel acts "foolishly", Tel Aviv and Haifa would be destroyed, state TV reported.
"We will expand our missile capabilities despite western pressure (to curb
it) .... to let Israel know that if it acts foolishly, Tel Aviv and Haifa
will be totally destroyed," the hardline cleric said during Friday prayers
at Tehran University.
### - looks like we've made it to the 13th then huh?
but obviously with more to come from israel; even more so if iran decides
to retaliate for this latest assault...
scores on the door right now being:
israel hit iran multiple times (100+ times!)
iran recently hit back for the first time ever send 20 rockets into israel israel massively pounds iranian positions in syria in response
...everyone's now holding their breath waiting to see what happens next?
dunno what... but something!
not if but when!
