ISRAEL has sent a stark warning to Iran after it released satellite
pictures of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces stationed in
Syria as proof the military can target them if tensions escalate.
Images released by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) show several military
bases in Syria country which the IDF says are being used by Iran to funnel weapons into the war-torn country.

The IDF says personnel and planes from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are located at four regional airports, Damascus International Airport, and a smaller airfield close to the capital.
The release of the images was designed to show Iran the IDF is well aware
where its forces are in Syria and is ready to strike.
The surveillance pictures show IRGC planes and personnel, which the IDF
says illustrates the threat posed by Tehran because of how easily weapons
can be transported in from Iran.
Amos Yadlin, the former head of Israeli Military Intelligence, said: "This latest development didn’t suddenly happen.
"It’s a result of the Iranians’ resolve to entrench in Syria and Israel is determined to prevent that from happening.
"That’s why these two normally risk-averse powers are now close to confrontation.
"It’s not inevitable because Putin has an interest in stabilising Syria
and he can try to defuse the situation."
A senior Israeli defence official told The Times: "Despite all the
diplomacy and warnings, the Iranians are still going to try to build their permanent bases in Syria and so far, we don’t see Putin trying very hard
to stop them.
"Russia needs the Iranians to supply boots on the ground. As for the US,
we have yet to see a clear policy from the Trump administration on the
Syrian issue."
The release of the satellite pictures comes as Israeli security services
are on red alert in anticipation of an imminent attack from the IRGC.
The IDF carried out a strike on an Iranian drone base in Syria earlier
this month, killing seven Iranians.
This was after Israel shot down a drone, launched from the same facility,
which it claimed was carrying explosives and on its way to attack Israeli territory.
Israel says it expects retaliation, and believes an attack could come
tomorrow, on the day of the country’s 70th-anniversary celebrations.
Although it has not publicly admitted carrying out the raid, Iran has
vowed to take revenge.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said: “The Zionist entity will sooner or later receive the necessary response and will regret its misdeeds.”
### - can't see iran doing anything to israel 'directly' (like sending
missiles to bomb tel aviv like saddam did that time, for example...) as
israel is quite capable of utterly destroying iran with only a couple of
nukes, these last strikes from israel apparently being launched from
'outside' syrian airspace by israeli planes flying in Lebanon... should
they cross over into syrian airspace, however, might be a different matter altogether as iran could, quite conceivably, shoot them down using
russia's feared s400 surface to air equipment...
