The world is closer to nuclear annihilation than at any point since the
first hydrogen bombs were tested in the early 1950s, says a group of
    scientists who monitor global tensions.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists announced today that it has moved
its Doomsday Clock to 2 minutes before midnight, citing North Korea’s
recent tests of missiles and nuclear weapons and the world’s lack of
    progress in confronting climate change.

    http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/01/scientists-doomsday-clock-heralds-world-s-darkest-hour

“In 2017, we saw reckless language in the nuclear realm heat up already dangerous situations and relearned that minimizing evidence-based
assessments regarding climate and other global challenges does not lead to better public policies,” said Rachel Bronson, the Bulletin’s president and CEO in Chicago, Illinois. Last year the clock moved half a tick, from 3
minutes to 2.5 minutes before midnight; it has been in single digits since India and Pakistan staged back-to-back nuclear weapons tests in 1998.

    ### - now worse than EVER before? the worst??

well who'd have guessed it! (riiiight...)

the only 'progress' we ever appear to be making on this
primitive world: is inexorably towards midnight!?

    wonderful...

    yeah yeah, isn't science wonderful??

pile of shit more like considering where it's taken, AND is taking us?

    to hell apparently!

(Ps. better make that $100 on the big machine chris huh; no point feckin' about!)

Bullshit Slider. This clock has been around since the 1950's and
includes factors such as cloning and genetic modification, climate
change and so on as a rationale for the clock status as an apocalypse indicator.

There is no algorithm - that is, no simultaneous equation or linear
programming or whatever comprising variables referencing the commonly
expected causes of our species' demise - eg x=nuclear war probability
(say as a factor of imminence, risk, statesmens' state of mind -
however that could be quantified - warhead decay etc etc etc); z =
risk of AI wiping out our species and perhaps all organic things -
again, millions of different variables just plugging into this one
    factor...

...you're moderately intelligent, you get the drift.

It's a gimmick and that's being nice about it. You've been scammed :)

By the way, what the fuck has happened to Dave? Is he dead? Did his
adopted family throw him out of the over-utilised house? We need him
here don't we? That penetrating intellect, laser interrogatory
skills, compelling personality...come back, Dave (or Lazarus:)

    ### - it's been around since 1947 actually, and is currently tying with
1953 for its current 2 minutes to midnight status... although there's no "algorithm" involved, the movements of the clock are judiciously + intelligently (i.e., non-hysterically) decided by an educated committee
based on current threats to humanity...

    e.g.:

"The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists began as an emergency action
undertaken by scientists who saw urgent need for an immediate educational program about atomic weapons.[16] One of the purposes of the Bulletin was
to educate fellow scientists about the relationship between their world of science and the world of national and international politics. A second was
to help the American people understand what nuclear energy and its
possible applications to war meant. The Bulletin contributors believed the
atom bomb would only be the first of many dangerous presents from
"Pandora's box of modern science."[16] The aim of the Bulletin was to
carry out the long, sustained effort of educating people about the
    realities of the scientific age.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists seeks to educate citizens, policy
makers, scientists, and journalists by providing non-technical,
scientifically sound and policy-relevant information about nuclear weapons
and other global security issues. The Bulletin also serves as a reliable, high-quality global forum for diverse international opinions on the best
means of reducing reliance on nuclear weapons.[17] Since its inception in
1945, the Bulletin has sought to educate the American public of the
continual danger posed by nuclear weapons and other global dangers, most recently adding climate change and emerging technologies in the life
sciences to the list of concerns."

    ### - heh, in 'that' sense 'dave' is merely the direct equivalent of the tediously + predictably 'obnoxious' element of any panel of judges that typically officiate at (for example) these cruddy 'america/uk has
talent-type competitions'; the artistically-talentless himself critic, who rarely, if ever, appreciates whatever's being presented in what is an ostensibly Art show; the fixed + nasty member of the team who can be
depended upon to routinely focus on the whatever-negative aspects of
anything & everything he officiates over, with, in his case, the addition
of a prior agenda of quite deliberately maligning 'anything' that isn't scientifically biased/sacrosanct! (iow: quite useless for judging anything
    of an 'artistic' nature lol...)

in terms of his still being "alive" or not; well heh, he's probably 'been'
dead for a very long time! (dead from the neck down heh) if in fact he's arguably ever actually lived at all? (hah!) and has fucked-off now in
abject shame (yes shame!) for finally (i would have said: inevitably heh) embarrassing himself in public by 'fessing-up' (to you) about something i called him out on years ago bit which he totally + adamantly denied!

namely: that his whole 'purpose' here was (and is) one of primarily
utterly destroying everything, anyone, and anything cc-related, but which
has subsequently been enlarged to include anything whatsoever of a
'spiritual' nature, which, in his utter folly, has also come to include
art, poetry and literature (and even history?) if/when it doesn't jibe
with scientific opinion?! (like: duh! mainly because art never 'did' jibe
    with science?)

i think chris knows why he's fucked-off (they've obviously talked
privately i mean), which, if ya read between the lines of his own 'later' remarks, reveals jeremy to be feeling like "he's said all there is to say"
and so he's finally fucked off! (heh riiiight...)

(i think he's genuinely gone THIS time, and that the only way he's coming
back is IF some castaneda-people start showing up here again to discuss castaneda hah! and because after the demise of cc that's been his only
(now admitted) reason for even remaining here!)

there remains, however, heh, the very 'slight' possibility (and it's very slight indeed!) that he'll eventually return 'minus' his previous crappy + totally biased bs-agenda in 'regards' to cc and life in general, and
continue in a perhaps more 'intelligent' and 'open' manner as befits 'more honest' intellectuals in the pursuit of knowledge... that damnably 'huge'
ego of his; crushed finally, by the pincers of contradiction in which he'd formerly placed himself! (owwwch!)

an encounter with his own 'self-importance' from which he may (or may not) survive!

    we'll see wont we ;)

(i.e., IF he comes back at all; he'll either be totally fucked-up or
    totally better!)

note to 'dave...': you actually 'liked' that short sartre story 'The Wall' didn't you?

well, just keep reading that one, over & over if necessary, until the
penny finally drops and you begin to actually 'see' things 'as they really
+ genuinely are' - it's your only hope!

and because it's that or die an embittered + disappointed old man?

(sartre is describing/defining our true life situation! the Truth no one actually dare lives? and/or lives in total denial of! - the only 'truth'
worth knowing! - a truth that makes 'outsiders' of us all...)

    happy landings... Dave!
