North Korea war games: Britain to join US forces for military exercise

BRITISH forces will take part in controversial military exercises led by
the US that are due to take place close to North Korea.

The Pentagon has announced that along with British troops taking part,
forces from Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand and The Netherlands
are also due to be involved in the manoeuvres that are due to start on
Monday and last for 10 days.

Around 17,500 US forces personnel are due to take part in the joint
    exercise alongside South Korea.

The US troops will join with around 30,000 US troops already stationed in
    South Korea.

It is unclear how many British troops will take part in the war games or
what part of the armed forces they are from.

Both the US and South Korea are due to conduct a joint computer simulated defensive exercise.

The 10 day exercise, named Ulchi-Freedom Guardian, will involve land, sea
and air forces which is highly controversial as it comes amid worsening relations in the area and growing fears over the possibility of
hostilities breaking out as North Korea continues its missile testing and developing nuclear weapons.

Pyongyang has seen the event as highly provocative while US President
Donald Trump wants to put on a show of force in an attempt to deter Kim
Jong-un from continuing to test launch intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The annual military exercise comes after Mr Trump claimed that US forces
were “locked and loaded” if North Korea chose to act “unwisely”.

In turn, North Korea threatened a “thousands-fold” revenge as well as threatening to launch missiles at the US territory of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.

China, which is North Korea’s main trading partner, has called for the exercise to be cancelled in light of the tensions in the area as well as
saying that North Korea should halt its weapons programme.

Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said yesterday
the exercises were "not currently on the table as part of the negotiation
    at any level".

He said: "My advice to our leadership is that we not dial back our
exercises. The exercises are very important to maintaining the ability of
    the alliance to defend itself.

"As long as the threat in North Korea exists, we need to maintain a high
state of readiness to respond to that threat.”

Russia has also called for restraint, saying it was vital to avoid doing anything that would result in reaching a "point of no return".

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said:
"Any attempt to resolve the problem over the Korean Peninsula by force
will lead to a massive tragedy and enormous loss of life.”

    ### - the largest ever 'war game/exercise' apparently!?!

plus like thang said: bringing in the brits is a serious move!

so, does the punk feel lucky??

i.e., if he doesn't react directly then maybe what they're hoping/planning
on is kimmy having a more conventional poke (a half dozen rockets say) at
some minor border infringements like he did that time a couple of years
back? (shot up some almost deserted island killing 4 or 5 peeps in the
process, can't remember now if they were troops or fishermen?) that we'll
maybe draw him into a punch up in a similar manner 'during' these war
games and then clobber the prick if/when he does? and because china wont
come in if HE starts it!

there's definitely something in the air? (tonite) :)
