Self-isolation for people who catch Covid could be reduced from 10 to
seven days within weeks to help cope with staffing crises sparked by the
    virus, The Telegraph understands.

Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, is said to be “very keen” on shortening the time as hospitals and businesses struggle to maintain staffing levels.

He has asked for rapid advice from clinicians so that any change could be introduced within weeks amid growing concern at the impact of the virus, particularly on the NHS.

Hospital staff have warned that beds are being closed and employees are
being stretched to cover other specialities as a result of rising Covid
cases among NHS staff forcing them into isolation.

Sadiq Khan, the London Mayor, declared a “major incident” on Saturday
after discussions with NHS London, local councils and other emergency and essential services on the impact of the virus on their workers.

Desperate business leaders have also called for a cut in the period of isolation, claiming the current policy is “lockdown by stealth”.

It is understood the Cabinet’s Covid-O (Operational) committee met on
Sunday to consider what measures could be introduced to help tackle the
    impact on supply chains.

It is likely that a reduction in the days in isolation will be allied to a requirement for people to have a negative lateral flow test before they
    can leave.

At the weekend, Prof Neil Ferguson, the scientist behind Britain’s
lockdowns, said that as long as people completed a negative test, the
    window could be reduced.

The Imperial College modeller, who sits on Sage, said: “I think it is
always a trade-off between the effectiveness of those things and people’s adherence to them.

“I think if it could be coupled with lateral flow testing, so testing negative to release. All the modelling and analysis would suggest if it is coupled with lateral flow testing, [isolating for just seven days is] not
going to reduce the effectiveness of the measures that much.”

His comments chime with those of Prof Paul Hunter, professor of medicine
at the University of East Anglia, who said that omicron patients were most infectious in the first five days, after which infectiousness falls.”

    ### - quote: "Desperate business leaders have also called for a cut in the period of isolation, claiming the current policy is “lockdown by stealth”."

and THAT'S just the hospitals?? what about fire crews & paramedics? and
then just about everywhere else in society TOO shortly??

*desperate business leaders* saying it ALL here then huh!

iow: screw people's lives and just get 'em all back to work... regardless!?

the JOKE being (and what they're perhaps not taking into consideration) is
that people with the original strain of covid were, in one instance, found
to be infectious for a total of 57 days!!! some of 'em not even SHOWING
any symptoms??? this omicron being even MORE infectious!

another report also revealing that the virus remained active on certain surfaces for longer than others, in one instance for 17 days on a plastic
    work surface!?! 17 days ffs!!!

and now here they are talking about ENDING isolation of omicron within
only SEVEN days of it even being detected?????? (sheer madness!)

in which case people will come out of their isolation prolly still
carrying active omicron on their clothes and shoes even if they've stopped shedding it personally (which its doubtful they will have anyway) + whose
to say they (or their clothes) don't become 'reinfected' on the way out
the door by their family & friends there who DIDN'T all go down with it at EXACTLY the same time???

this is utter bollocks! 4 to 6 weeks isolation being far more practical?

so then here's an even BETTER idea based on THEIR current reasoning:

let's instead just ALL pretend it doesn't even EXIST and go back to normal anyway, and let those who die: DIE! - and good riddance to them!? coz
that's cheaper than healing/treating them anyway!

    riiiiight....

it's ridiculous! (scandalous actually) - but which is in fact what they're apparently actually doing/actively-planning??

in which case we might as well then SCRAP using isolation altogether!?

the ONLY proven thing that ACTUALLY works against covid - isolation &
    total lockdown - effectively banned!

    what a coincidence! (riiiiight....)

so then, it could be getting a bit grim here soon huh; as in if'n i
disappears suddenly and don't come back then am probably gone... and/or
prolly won't last long at my age anyway so will just say all my goodbyes
    now... just in case :)

(now where the fuck did i leave that damn canary again? looks like we damn gonna needs him heh)
