• Gopher client for Synchronet?

Ok, someone's developing a Gopher client for Mystic. Does anyone want to
take up the challenge and create one for Synchronet?

I liked running Gopher on my BBS, but clients became harder and harder to
find. I'd love to have a gopherspace door/client on my BBS, think it would
fit into the general BBS scene nicely.

... If it isn't broken, I can fix it.

I've been using the internet since 1995, and I've never even used Gopher..

Gopher, Archie, Veronica - they were the tools of the internet up until the
web took over. Archie was a list of files on Gopher sites, and Veronica was
a list of the menus, so you could search across all of gopherspace. Coming
from a BBS and shell account background, it was like a text-based web.

Yes, and you could search with Veronica, then jump from gopher to gopher in ways not too dissimilar to the web, but menu based, rather than hyperlinked. I remember experiencing hyperlinks on the web for the first time (using Lynx), after much experience with Veronica and Gopher and thinking "This is really cool". :)

Didn’t Synchronet have gopher on it years ago? I remember the name.

I used to use Gopher heaps in 1994 - 96, then I switched to web based search engines.
