can someone tell me if synchronet bbs will work on Microsoft Surface Pro?
I don't see why not, since it runs Windows and has an Intel processor. That said, it probably has the 64-bit edition of Windows on it, so you won't be able to run DOS doors (the 16-bit DOS subsystem isn't there in 64-bit editions of Windows). Otherwise I'd think Synchronet should run on it..

but will the touch screen work with synchronet though or will you need to use a standard keyboard layout? it does pose a question here.

IIRC, the Surface Pro uses the full version of Windows, so I don't see any reason why Synchronet wouldn't run on it.

Yes, you do. But the Windows command prompt is not DOS.
The file explorer in Windows 10 is Explorer, the same as in previous versions of Windows..

They, as in the command prompt and the file explorer? I think they're fairly easy to find. In Windows 10, you can also do a search in the start menu and find apps that way.

Exactly, though, I am not convinced that, despite the specs stating that the Surface Pro can run native Windows programs, there is a way to open and control ports and such, plus installing the various dll's required by SBBS

I'm very confused by this whole thread... Can you help me
understand it?
So... which of the choices below is more important to you?
1. Owning a MSP, to use for <whatever>, possibly including running
SBBS.
2. Running a Synchronet BBS.
Answering that question should help you decide if the risk of
being "screwed" if SBBS won't run on the MSP is worth it.
If your answer is #1, then you should proceed with getting the MSP
and use it for whatever you desire. Hopefully the SBBS will run
on it (I think it will). However it doesn't seem to be the right
platform to run a BBS on, to me.
If your answer is #2, in my opinion, you should get some *OTHER*
kind of hardware to run the BBS on. A cheap mini-tower computer
and monitor, or a cheap laptop. Both are guaranteed to be able to
run SBBS.
Your move.

I saw them for their farewell tour.. Good set, though they skipped a lot of my favorite songs of theirs (they only did a few of theirs from the 80s & 90s, they mostly did their music from the 70s & today). Also, at the venue I saw them at, I don't think they sounded very good.. It sounded too loud and distorted - Not sure if that was more due to the venue or the speakers or other equipment they were using..

well i knew clockwork angels would be their final before they even announced it. Geddy said that they were sorry they rushed the album but they wanted to make it to the rock and roll hall of fame, otherwise it would have sounded better.
They can probably eventually release a remixed version like they did with Vapor Trails.

My favorite Rush stuff is their albums Moving Pictures through Counterparts. like some of their songs before & after that period too.
I remember around 1997, reading some things about Rush and that their drumme (Neil Peart) wife and daughter died within a fairly short amount of time (hi daughter died in a car accident, and his wife died from cancer 10 months later). Neil took some time off, and I heard he went on a motorcycle trip f a while and wrote a book called "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road". Rush was on hiatus while he was away.

Yes I think he went down to Mexico actually on his bike. During that hiatus, he hooked up a with a famous old school drummer. I can't remember which.
He
reinveted his drumming style and learned how to play using traditional grip instead of the modern grip most drummers use today.
When he reimerged he started playing in like big band events and jazz shit. It was insane. Now, he's able to flip back and forth between grip styles at will. Truly impressive that someone at the peak of his skills threw them aside and learned something completely different, mastered it, then made use of his old and new skills.
The guy really is one of the best percussionists of all time in any genre.
