• Synchronetris won't start a game

    Hi all,

Another side issue on one of the stock doors. I can't seem to get a game in Synchronetris going. The synchronetris.ini is stock,
allowing for a minimum of 1 players, server.ini is set to localhost, the entry in json-service.ini is there.

Everything seems to work with getting ready to play the game. Can enter the game, ask to play, the user's status goes green when
hitting [R]eady, and then nothing. Can chat, exit, etc. But the game never starts even after waiting several minutes.

Logs seem to suggest everything is happy (as far as I can tell):

Apr 26 12:51:38 home synchronet: term Node 2 <Va7aqd> running external program:
    Synchronetris
Apr 26 12:51:39 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON db: 57 SUBSCRIBE channels.#synchronetris.messages OK
Apr 26 12:51:39 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON db: 57 LOCK channels.#synchronetris.history OK
Apr 26 12:51:39 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON db: 57 SLICE channels.#synchronetris.history OK
Apr 26 12:51:39 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON db: 57 LOCK channels.#synchronetris.history OK
Apr 26 12:51:39 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON db: 57 WHO channels.#synchronetris.messages OK
Apr 26 12:52:16 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON releasing subscription: channels.#synchronetris.messages

Be interesting to know if this issue has shown up for anyone else.

    Thanks!

Everything seems to work with getting ready to play the game. Can enter the game, ask to play, the user's status goes green when hitting [R]eady,

Hit [Enter] at this point and you'll be brought into the game. Unfortunately I don't think there's any prompt on the screen that tells you this.

and then nothing. Can chat, exit, etc. But the game never starts even

What's happening is that it's waiting for some other player(s) to come along, join your game, and signal that they're ready to play head-to-head. You can skip that and go single-player if you want.

Nada, had tried hammering bunches of keys in the past, but just checked again and Enter isn't doing anything helpful either. Even
    after several seconds.

You can skip that and go single-player if you want.

    I wish I could!

Very strange. It worked for me here earlier (I tried before I posted).

It might be worth checking your services log, right after startup, and looking for any error messages related to the JSON service. There is a background script involved here, and I think it does something re: coordinating matches; perhaps it's crashing or something.

I wish there were something interesting happening in the log - I have Debug level set in sbbs.ini, and this is all I get when

Actually I thought I was seeing another unrelated process do things at the same
time, so omitted the 2nd services connection parts
in the logs. Here's a more accurate set of logs:

It might be worth checking your services log, right after startup, and

I wish there were something interesting happening in the log - I have Debug level set in sbbs.ini, and this is all I get when trying to get the game going:

To clarify, when I said "at startup" I meant at the startup of the BBS (or right after your services thread has been recycled) as this is when the game's service script would launch (not when someone launches the game itself). If the service script is crashing, this is when it would happen.

The service script is something that stays connected and waits for updates from the game's JSON-DB module. It manages a bunch of different things, and I don't think the game will work at all without it (even if chunks of the front end are usable).

Sorry about that, didn't quite grok the intended meaning! OK, so, when SBBS starts, we see:

    Apr 28 21:26:18 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON database initialized (v1.40): ../xtrn/synchronetris/synchronetris.json
Apr 28 21:26:18 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON loaded module: synchronetris ...
Apr 28 21:26:18 home synchronet: srvc 0000 JSON Synchronetris background service initialized

And that's all there is that specifically mentions 'netris.
