Sending Netmail to a user on fsxNet -- expect that Netmail will go to my Hub (21:ALL is routed to the fsxNet HUB), but it keeps trying to send directly (and failing). I've checked, double-checked and triple-checked that there is no direct setting whatsoever set for Netmail or the destination address or anything.
For the life of me I cannot figure this out. I've searched every document, checked every config file. Either its blatantly obvious and I'm just missing it or ???

Ideas where to search next?
What does your routing look like in echocfg's Linked Nodes (or sbbsecho.ini)? I stumbled through the routing without much issue, luckily.

FTN network stuff is tricky at best -- but way better than it was back in the 80s and 90s. However, I have to admit I love the simplicity of QWK networking. It "just works". The older I get, even as an IT guy, I just want things in my personal life that "just work".

I finally found the culprit -- Netmail was set to crash mode. Slowly but surely I'm learning all the intricacies of the software.I appreciate learning through other's pain (well, in the technical world anyway)! Heh, glad you got it sorted and now I know something to not do.

On that point, though... I haven't seen any documentation that discusses file echos (FTN file hatching and the like) or netmail in QWK. Do these features exist?

NetMail, yes (http://wiki.synchro.net/ref:qwknet). File echoes, no.
Good read. The transferring files between nodes and hubs part sounds interesting and I like the concept. I don't really make use of the FTN file echoes because its a lot of "noise and bits" I can do without.
However, there are times I wish I could send someone a file and
reading over this doc, this seems a pretty clear cut way of doing it.
Will have to give it a try.
Going to have to dig into this FREQ thing as well... could be useful.

I prefer FTN too, but happy to use QWK when appropriate. :)

i dont like any hassles either. i actually prefer ftn; maybe it's about what software you use. i've found that you got to make sure who you're connecting with isnt a flake. over the years i've been a member of msg networks and gaming networks where the operator cant keep it up or switches software all the time.

I have a soft spot for FTN, just because it was so difficult back then.
I want to reap the benefits of all of the time I spent with toll
tables, polling events and routing rules. :)
QWK netmail does exist, at least on Synchronet boards. Digital Man has implemented and documented extensions to QWK networking that include netmail support. You simply send a netmail to user@BBSID on a QWK netmail capable system.

And I've also seen QWK netmail addresses to route through one BBS to another, such as nightfox@VERT/DIGDIST, to route through Vertrauen to Digital Distortion.

QWK seems simpler to set up.. What is it about FTN that you prefer?

QWK has supported for FREQ for.... ever? Anyway, a long time. But
you'll need an account on the BBS from which you're FREQing files.

Well, the feature set, like file echos, FREQ, etc. Synchronet at least provides one other thing QWK was missing - netmail.
And yes, QWK is simpler to setup.
