Hi everyone, especially DM. Been trying to debug Heliarc's QWKnet FTP sessions with my system, and this is a bit roundabout, but here we go.

When he attempts a session with my BBS, something goes wrong. I'm still trying to get a complete picture from his end.

Firstly, here's my log at the server end of a qnet-ftp session:

Mar 14 12:41:57 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 CTRL connection accepted from: 45.56.88.52 port 59047
    Mar 14 12:41:57 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 Hostname: havens.synchronetbbs.org
Mar 14 12:41:58 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 Havens logged in (3 today, 26 total)
Mar 14 12:42:00 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 Havens creating QWK packet...
Mar 14 12:42:00 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 Havens creating QWK packet...
Mar 14 12:52:01 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 !TIMEOUT waiting for QWK packet creation
Mar 14 12:52:01 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 Havens logged off
Mar 14 12:52:01 lemaker synchronet: ftp 0083 CTRL thread terminated (0 clients and 1 threads remain, 454 served)

Hmm, seems my end is struggling to create his QWK packet for some reason...

And here's the logs from the remote system.

Putting the logs together, I conclude for some reason, my end isn't generating the QWK packet in time.

    I'll investigate this further.

I checked and he had some permission errors where it was owned by him and not the SBBS owner. I chmown'd the /sbbs tree so see if it is working for him now...

I'm not very familar with QNET stuff yet, but generaly an error like the one I pasted above which has a "Permission denied" on the remote system maybe be the cause?

Hmm, seems my end is struggling to create his QWK packet for some reason...

What's the event thread doing during this? The event thread is responsible for creating QWK packets, but I don't see anything in your log from it.

And here's the logs from the remote system.

3/14 01:40:57 evnt Semaphore signaled for QWK Network Hub: FREEWAY

I'm not clear what you mean by "the remote system" - your system? Anyway, whatever system is "Creating FREEWAY.REP" clearly has permissions issues. They need to check/fix the perms on /sbbs/data/subs/restronet*

Putting the logs together, I conclude for some reason, my end isn't generating the QWK packet in time.

    I'll investigate this further.

Looks like there's issues on both ends.

I later noticed other issues, like this message wasn't getting sent out, and ended up restarting SBBS. Perhas the event thread got stuck somehow?

I concur. Anyway, now that my QWK mail is flowing, it's worth Heliarc trying again. :)

Between that and the restart I did on my system (something was also holding up outgoing QWK sessions from here to Vert, though couldn't see it in the logs), hopefully everything will work.

Thanks for helping out. I was trying to get him to check those things.
