the cbl list. When you elnet to sbbs smtp mail server should be displayed without hitting any keys?

    220 sbbs.dynu.net Synchronet SMTP Server 1.679-Win32 Ready

Is there a way to disable it?

The server is supposed to send a 220 message, without any prompting from the client, immediately after the connection is opened. Disabling that means breaking your SMTP server, and likely preventing it from working with any client that connects to it.

What problem are you actually trying to solve? How will this help with you being on the CBL?

I just did a telnet to port 25 and it showed the 220 banner. It took a few moments but it came up. Maybe you think it isn't being displayed so you hit enter then it pops up rather than just waiting.

Disable what exactly; the SMTP Greeting? Yes it can be disabled but I'm sure if you found a way to disable it you'd render your SMTP inoperative. When you telnet to your SMTP Port and see, 220 sbbs.dynu.net Synchronet SMTP Server 1.679-Win32 Ready it is affect identifying itself and waits for the sending SMTP server/client to issue an EHLO (or HELO for older clients) command which identifies itself and if all is well mail services begin, etc. See RFC821 and RFC5321 for more

    220 sbbs.dynu.net Synchronet SMTP Server 1.679-Win32 Ready

Also, I might add, typically any mail server running on a Win32 system is considered less secure because Win32 is a less-than-secure OS and is prone to viruses that utilize inherent security-risks and requires considerable more thoughtful service configurations so when an SMTP server sees EHLO *-Win32 is gets it's hackles up in the air

Question because I keep having a issue with my ip address being added to the cbl list.....
    Thanks

    Phil

There are a few options available:
1). you could relay your smtp server via vert.synchro.net (likely the easiest) 2). relay your smtp via google mail services
3). have your dns server register an MX record in there mail exchanger to 'vouch' for your domain
    4) DO THIS ANYWAY ... contact CBL and ask them to remove your ip/domain from their list; they like it when people take the time to communicate with them :)

Usually getting BL'd is a result of a misconfigured mail server, therefore, being seen as an untrusted mail server. First, ensure that your server is properly configured, taking note, especially, of how you allow your users to use your server (forwarding/relaying?)

    Hope this helps a bit

I have dynamic dns through Oracle Dyn.com, for a small fee one can add 'mailhop' as a relay server which makes any SMTP server trusted because you use their credentials in conjunction with your oracle account. For now, I am happy to use vert as a relay, as it seems to me, vert has trusted credentials. Though, for my website(s) any smtp sends are relayed via one of my google accounts ... in the end, phil has the issues and has difficulty 'accepting' possible solutions :-P
