Did you check the Synchronet wiki? There is a fairly good documentation page there for installing on Linux:

I'm not sure about SyncTerm, but I thought there was a binary download of SyncTerm somewhere. Quite sime time ago, I found a binary download of SyncTerm for Linux which worked for me at the time.

Hello,
I am trying to install Synchronet on Ubuntu 17.10. I posted a message on the yahoogroups but it seems it was never approved. How do I build Synchronet for linux? I can't seem to find good instructions. I also was looking for syncterm for linux, and I downloaded that source as well, and I am unable to build it as well.. If someone could walk me through the steps I can post more information on error messages and such. It's been years since I did anything in a linux environment so I'm a bit rusty.Visual Studio has a way of making us lazy. ;-) thanks,

If you get the prerequisites installed and successfully build Synchronet, try building SyncTERM again - you may be able to at that point. If not, the error messages you're seeing when attempting to build would point the way to a solution (you should share those with us here).

I didn't know that such a group existed on Yahoo Groups. I've always referred to the official Synchronet documentation page (and more recently, the wiki) and Dove-Net, as those seem to be the most up-to-date and active resources for Synchronet.

Hi, well, sounds like you're coming from a Windows background and from that perspective; everything is easier. But I'll say now that the instructions for Synchornet Linux aren't really too complicated, in my view. Though, they can have a lot of steps, and, I can see how at first shot it can get a bit confusing...

I have my own variation of an SBBS installer that I created for my own BBS. I've provided the link here, you'll wanna tune it a bit for your environment but it automates the build of SBBS on Ubuntu 17 just fine for me.

I was able to build synchronet on Debian Stretch mate no problem.

Actually, building it from the repository (the first recommended method) is very simple, almost a singlke step process, once the prerequisites are installed.

Yeah I ran into an error message that didn't give me any useful clues. Will have to take another look to see what went wrong.
