I think your use of the word "hack" here isn't accurate. Anyone can edit any page on a wiki (generally). That's the entire point and does not constitute a "hack".

Votes are messages. Until yesterday-ish, they counted toward the
total number of messages in an area. If you only retain 10K
messages in Synchronet Discussion, the deluge of downvotes
would've pushed some "actual" messages out. With a new build, the
vote messages won't count toward that retention limit (as I
understand it).
