3 of those are operating systems and 1 is a platform. You can actually run some forms of Windows on an rPi (although, in my experience, not very well).

In addition, I like Linux as well.. Linux Mint is probably my favorite Linux distro right now. I've also tried FreeBSD and PC-BSD, which I think are decent.

If you're just referring to operating systems only, Windows (whether 7 or 10) is better IF you have a PC. If you have a Pi, Os X and Windows aren't going to run on it so Pi3 is better. Plus you left out Linux with its dozens of different distributions, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc. all of which AFAIK run on PC hardware, and have their good and bad points, strengths and weaknesses.

Any computer system family (PC, Mac, Pi) has real-world applications for which it's best as well as other advantages and disadvantages. Windows is so common there are lots of apps for it. Macs have their "walled garden" of vetted apps that should work flawlessly on a Mac system, unlike Windows with all of its unvetted 34rd party software out there. Pis are best when you need a small, low-power (as in electrical consumption) machine such as for a cheap, dedicated or embedded system. None of them are the absolute "best" bar none: it depends on what you want to accomplish with the computer (and such factors as how much money you want to spend, and on the availability of these systems where you live.)

Exactly! There's an old saying "Horses for courses". There is a reason why I have Windows, Linux(x64) and Raspberry/Banana Pi running Linux. Each has its particular strengths and weaknesses. I don't currently have a Mac. Love them, but out of my price range ATM. :(

I think Mac is as much of a PC as any PC, hardware-wise. Macs use Intel processors and similar other components. Apple does have some kind of hardware check for OS X so it would normally only run on Apple computers, but there's also the "hackintosh" community who have enabled OS X to run on non-Apple computers. If Apple officially enabled OS X to run on non-Apple computers, I think more Windows users would probably move to OS X. I've heard of a lot of Windows users who have ended up buying a Mac, especially after Windows 10 came out and Microsoft started doing forced updates, etc.

My setup is Win10/x64, the BBS is running on a Windows XP VM. My plan is to move it to a dedicated Linux box (Mint or Debian probably).

The only reason I kept the board on Windows for so long was for DOS compatibility, but now that most games you can remote to other boards for, I've just nuked anything DOS based or non-JS, so now I can just move the whole system to any platform and not have to worry about breaking door games. :P

WELL, the games I'm gating are stuff like LORD, LORE, Falon's Eye, DoorMud, etc. I mean the only reason I'm linking them is so I don't have to maintain them. The games I care about are games like The Infocom Interactive Fiction series like Zork, Colossal Cave, PLUNDERED HEARTS!, Leather Goddesses of Phobos (*Rrrrawwww!*), etc. As well as any game that could be considered "Roguelike", like Rogue, Nethack, Angband, ToME, Dwarf Fortress, etc.

So my BBS has game links to Center of Awareness, and BBSLinks games, but the main sections that I like to focus on are Interactive Fiction and RLs. I admit getting modern IF working on BBS is tough because there are VERY FEW interpreters for these games that tick all my boxes. (Users have to be able to save, scores are tracked, works with multiple formats of IF stories)

I've gone over this before on dovenet. I found a great IF program for Waffle BBS that allows users to save up to 10 slots per game, will track high scores, and won't let users save whereever they want. The problem is it only works with Infocom Zcode v3, which unfortunatly means it's restricted to older IF titles only, and usernames can only be 8 characters. (doesn't support long filenames either)

The big problem I have right now is I have a 6yo, most of my free time goes to her. I barely have time to play video games, let alone work on my hobby BBS. I really want to do more, but for now I'm just keeping it simple. I deleted a bunch of games out of my xtrn folder that are readily available on other sites. Waste of time. I have ideas for things I want to add to make my board stand out, but I'm a horrible coder and honestly I have a couple ideas that I don't want to just hack in, but want to make it an add-on that's properly designed and easy to maintain/customize. It's a silly idea, but I'm hoping it'll drive people to my IF games.

Running on a Windows 10 VM, but I want to move it to UbuntuServer as a VM. But I read there is no LFN support in SynchroNet 3.x but it will come in 4.0 for all platforms (is this going to happen soon?).
