I come here to read about Synronet BBS, not this nonsense.

Then start a conversation about Synchronet. Ask a question, make a comment, whatever. The best way to get people back on topic would be by giving them something to talk about. All you're doing right now is joining in the nonsense.
(Me too, but I'm not as
bothered by it as you are.)

Who is the moderator of this echo and why is he allowing this sort of crap
    in
    here?

Relax. There are more reasons to avoid moderation than there are to be heavy-handed with it.

Not that I disagree with you in general. I'd rather the nonsense take place in General or Debate or one of the subs I *don't* read. I'm mostly here to talk about Synchronet.

Sometimes I feel like Dove-Net is a bit of a wild west of message areas. There's some nonsense and stuff that goes on here sometimes.. There's an online forum I use sometimes that has posted rules and is more moderated that very rarely has any trolling or other such activity. Some stuff gets taken down due to violating the rules, but I'd say about 99% of the time it's a fairly peaceful forum, and I like that.

Those forums tend to be stuffy when they moderate to the point that they strip out those comments that tend to not side on attacks.

As for the subject brought up by the OP, it really depends on what sub-forums in Dove-Net that they have looked at and if they understand how how much different the BBS atmosphere is compared to the Facebook life od the Internet.

Deleting messages from DOVE-Net, or preventing them from propagating in the first place, is a whole other can of worms. Entirely doable, but creates a bunch of work and raises several other problems - some technical, some more philosophical.

True, there is a balance with having just enough moderation and not too much. There's a guitar forum I use online that I think has a good balance of moderation, and the site is generally fairly peaceful, with some really good and friendly discussions
    and helpful people there.

Your IP address is not private.. It's included with your message headers and pretty much whatever you do online. It's like how your home address is visible
to everyone who passes by on the street. You could cover it up, but then the mailman might have

But when they start posting private information in public is where they
    cross
    the line I think DM.

The IP address that you post a message from on here is not private information.
If it was, Mark wouldn't have been able to see it. At best, it's slightly obfuscated. Your ignorance isn't somebody else's wrongdoing.

If you're worried about your IP address being available to literally anyone who
can join DOVE-Net, your best bet would be to stop posting here.

I come here to read about Synronet BBS, not this nonsense.

    I agree with you.

Yet you are the worst offender. You just posted a message about Linux facial recognition that had nothing to do with Synchronet, and a couple messages later
you reply to this guy that you want people to stay on the topic.

You've got worse ADHD than my dog.

Yes, the listener is setup in services.ini. If you run "jsexec binkit install" it will add the listener and timed event for you.

BinkIT can also have a binkps listener (if you want it) and it can connect to other binkps listeners if you set "Implicit TLS" to yes, also in the binkp settings of your linked nodes.
