I wonder if i want to play the kick ass dos cd games from the past like
Descent or Sim City 2000 WOULD this mean I need to likely dual boot OS/2?

I play Descent 1 & 2 on linux with DXX-Rebirth. It's available for Windows, MacOS and Linux.

What OS are you running now? I actually got SC 2000 for DOS to run in
dosemu or dosbox on a linux machine, but that was before the 4.x kernel
came out. It does not support DPMI (or is it DMPI), so I doubt SC2000
    would work any more.

I have an old laptop that would not really run any modern OS. I loaded up Win98, keep it disconnected from the Internet, and have a portable machine I can play SC2000 and 3000 on. :)
