I used to play Galaga a lot, got reasonable at it. Having an arcade console with it at uni certainly helped! :D

Pinball: Medieval Madness, Funhouse, Addams Family

I remember Addams Family, it was quite a good pinball. I often preferred pinball over video games. :)

I'm sortof the same way - with pinball, you tend to be able to "control" things a bit better and there is less element of chance like there is with an arcade machine, where who knows what the code of the game will do.

With me it's a matter of feedback and physics. The ball in a pinball is a real physical object, so it behaves in a way my brain can predict, and there's more control for me. With video games, the interface is more limited (purely hand-eye), which doesn't suit me at all.

I remember that! 8-) I also remember that sometimes, the tables would not be "levelled" correctly. That made for some interesting gaming.

I think thats the case, and the hand-eye difference I thought was really apparent with "driving games" like Outrun, Grand-prix, etx.

I'm heavily dependent on feeling and movement. I can't play driving games, because they have no feel. Like driving a 1980s Ford with power steering (too light, no feel). :) And those games (like some first person shooters) where you have to navigate a space by "moving" in different directions, I get lost very quickly, while in the real world, my navigation is extremely good and I learn my way around (both indoors and outdoors) very quickly. Again, I suspect that's because the physical act of moving in an environment is a significant part of my spatial data.

I played a lot of Street Fighter and Spy vs. Spy back when I had my paper
route near the laundry mat that had a bunch of games. Good time then.

At University I played a ton of Area 51. One of the first, first person shooters. I missed the first two days of classes because of that damn game. Good thing I ran out of quarters.

Galaga was the favourite during my university years. There was an arcade console running Galaga in the university, which was pretty popular. I was never into the first person shooters, they came later anyway, but they mess with my coordination and navigation, because I rely so much on actual feel and movement for those functions in the real world (which game consoles can't simulate).

Loosly. It was a driving game where you had to run the bad guys off the
road. They would come up behind you or in front. Your car had oil slick, machine guns and tire shreaders. I think it was spy vs spy but I could be wrong. That just brought back another game with elevators but the name
escapes me. Probably something with "Elevator" in the name.

That sounds like Spy Hunter. Spy vs Spy was a two-player split-screen game consisting of a bunch of rooms where you had to find several items hidden
in furniture in order to escape on a plane with your top secret intel. All while setting traps to stop the other player, or fighting them if you ever end up in the same room.
