• Local Test BBS - How to generate 50,000 messages?

From toofargone@21:4/132 to All on Thursday, June 28, 2018 12:22:50
    Hi all,

I have set up a test bbs on my local laptop for making changes to themes /ansi's etc. Is there a way I can generate 50,000+ messages automatically so
I have some things to test with?

    Cheers,
    M.

Hmmm... not really but what you could do is reset your bases, request a full rescan of all message bases with a setting like

    %RESCAN D=800

That would give you a few messages...

Then get the replies from the HUB and prior to tossing them copy the packets into a temp directory so you can always retoss them in to a new system?

Or another way might be to save all the JAM bases with all your messages in them now, then copy the bases to a new test system and run the MUTIL function to mass import the messages and message bases in

Thanks, this test bbs is only for UI testing new changes, it's not hooked up
    to any live bbs.

Yes, you can. It will take an hour or so, unless you break the 50,000
    messages up into smaller "fragments".

You can use MUTIL with MYSTIC to import text files. Just create an INI file with the PostTextFiles stanza.

Myself, I used an Excel VBA code I wrote to do the loops to write out the INI file as I brought into a JAM message base over 90,000 messages. I found in fragments of 5000 messages, it was very quick. The larger the message count, the longer it took per equivalent message.

Nothing says you could not run the same INI file 10 times to get 50,000 messages posted.

But perhaps the dupe checking would stop the repeats getting in, or should do I'd say... so you would be best to have unique content.

Shouldn't mutil's post command take care of that? I remember that was a problem when the command was first added and g00r00 fixed it, I think it
will have a unique MSGID to handle that. They all (each post) should.
