• MUTIL Bug

    Avon,

I am not sure if anyone is tracking bugs, however I have found what might be classified as a bug. Not sure if there is some repository for g00r00 to be alerted to this when he returns, or what.

In the INI file for mutil using the POSTTEXTFILES stanza, if a message to be posted has too long of a length for the subject field, the whole INI file is aborted. MUTIL looks like it is "Working" when it is doing nothing. Hitting Ctrl-C gets you out of the lockup.

It took me some time to identify the issue. I had 1000+ files I was
importing as posts, and the process I used to get those messages thought the subjects were rather long. When I trimmed those subjects to a shorter
length, they would then post. I do not know what the maximum subject length for a JAM base subject field is, however I exceeded it when the subject and body of the message got crossed. Fortunately, I only had about 3 messages in 16,000 messages to post that had this issue.

My guess is there is some kind of an array with the INI file being read in completely before any processing is done.

    Later,

    Beery

Feel free to report them here and I will track/log stuff to pass to him upon his return to the scene :)

What length did you note was the trigger? I guess there is a given max length for subject so in some ways not too suprising to hear of this. If you can let me know the character count I will try and reproduce it here also :)

    Later,

    Cheers ears...

    Avon,

I do not know what the trigger length was. I just shortened it to something less than 80 characters thinking it did not exceed that. It is likely I had several hundred characters for the subject length since the "body" of the message became the subject.

I can recreate the circumstances if I get time tonight and should be able to send you a shortened file to repeat it.
