• NetRunner/Mystic - Copy Text To Clipboard For TTS

From Gandalf@21:1/101 to Avon on Tuesday, May 08, 2018 11:20:06
    Avon,

You have inspired me to create a BBS again. I am going to try and create a Mystic BBS with a WarGames theme called WOPR-BBS.

I am wanting to simulate the Joshua voice on the BBS. I would like to be able to send text to the user's clipboard which will then be read by the users text to speech program such as the free Speakonia TTS or Zabaware TTS Reader.

Do you know if this is possible? Does NetRunner or Mystic BBS have a way to copy text to the clipboard? In DOS you would for example type: Echo Shall We Play A Game | clip. If the user has the TTS program running, then whatever
is sent to the clipboard is read by the program. Ideally, it would be great
if the text could be sent to the clipboard bypassing the screen. This would allow for a different voice prompt from what is presented on screen.

If Mystic could do this (via it's python commands?) or NetRunner, that would really set it apart from other BBS/Terminal programs.

I am hoping you can reply with a "That's easy, you just..." response, or
maybe a "It is not easy, but you could...", or at minimum a "Let's ask to see if we can get that capability added..." lol!

Thank you again for your time and support. I appreciate it.

    Regards,
    Tim Woodland (Gandalf)

Hey cool, golly I never thought I'd be an inspiration in these circles.. so *blush* thanks for the compliment :)

Oh, and nice choice for the theme... I like that movie too :)

    OK..

Hmmm... well Netrunner can copy and save text to the clipboard simply by
using your mouse to drag over text etc. and on mouse release it saves it to
the clipboard, that much I know. I am unsure how you would send text directly to the clipboard to achieve what you are seeking. Others may know and care to comment. You can certainly send any text to the screen using Mystic and run batch files that may? achieve what you want to also I guess... what OS are
    you running?

If Mystic could do this (via it's python commands?) or NetRunner, that would really set it apart from other BBS/Terminal programs.

Mystic Python is in it's infancy compared to MPL but the author (James aka g00r00) has been adding a steady stream of Python functions to Mystic since Python was added an an option. Do check WHATSNEW.TXT for a list of functions
as they are added, a keyword search works well on 'python' also the same
thing works on the wiki :) Gryphon or Xqtr or Dream Master etc. may have some thoughts they can share in this space... it's just not an area I am very proficient on - sorry.

I am hoping you can reply with a "That's easy, you just..." response, or maybe a "It is not easy, but you could...", or at minimum a "Let's ask
to see if we can get that capability added..." lol!

I kinda hope my reply thus far is on track with your expectations :)

Thank you again for your time and support. I appreciate it.

    Anytime! You're most welcome :)

that would be a security risk if that was possible but it is not possible.

As Dreamaster pointed out, this isn't possible / would be a huge security flaw.

What you *could* do is use the VTX codes to play audio streams... of course it currently only works in the VTX terminal, but hopefully some will catch on in other terms as well (I have a itch to try to convince SyncTERM of such things...)

    Avon,
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it! I will check out the Mystic
Python commands and WHATSNEW file. I have been using the copy to clipboard function of Netrunner, however, it pops up a dialog box every time. I am searching for a way to copy text to the clipboard automatically but I do not think that I will find an easy solution. I am guessing that it would need to be a function of the terminal program. I will have to figure out a way to
get the author to incorporate it in Netrunner. It would be AWESOME! If Netrunner could interpret a code to send txt to the clipboard it would make Mystic even cooler! Again, thank you so much for your help.

    Regards,
    Gandalf

Thank you dream master, I can see that it would be a security risk. It would be great if Netrunner could interpret and send text from the BBS to a txt to speech program/plugin. This would help TTY/TDD users as well. Thank you
    again for your feedback.
