After walking into the computer room earlier I noticed that the BBBS
PC was off. Upon attempting to restart it the PC smoked (Literally).
Really NOT a good sign. :-)
Upon inspection the power supply fried (Cooked transformer). I
haven't accertained yet if the motherboard survived. But it is likely that
it didn't. As a result I am planning on acquiring a replacement PSU, MB, and CPU. Fortunately I had moved my FSXNET node over to a Mystic PC awhile back so I can still connect to the FSXNET echos.

Unfortunately no. Sorry to hear about that.
How many years of service did that box give you? My BBS machine is
fairly new.. so I'm hoping not to see any smoke any time soon.. :)

We'll try to keep you company til you get your other nets moving
again..

Bugger!!! No good when the magic smoke escapes. :(

Good thing FSX is still running. :) A new power supply should fix
things, with a bit of luck. :)
Yeah... The PSU made neat frying bacon type sound. Didn't smell like
bacon though. :-)

I like bacon... just saying...
But I don't like the magic smoke of doom ..
This post really didn't add anything of value to the conversation but it did make me hungry :)

This reply didn't add anything either. It was just to thank you for
making me hungry for bacon now. :)
Much better than that fishy smell from the fish oil in the exploded Chinese capacitors.

While I was at the candy store for a new power supply. I decided to upgrade the motherboard and processor and of course memory since the
new MB takes DDR4 where the previous MB used DDR3. The PC will be a tad overkill for running a BBS. Whats a BBS going to do with 32 gig of ram?
But... What the heck. :-) The previous PC had 16 gigs of DDR3 ram. The
new PC would make a decent gaming PC. Sad part is I don't play computer games. :-)

Never put a lot of stock in luck. I try to make my own whenever
possible. :-)

That reminds me of my school days. In the electronics class before the instructor
came in someone would put a handfull of small electrolytic caps in the outlets of the benches. The first thing the instructor would do would be to go over to the breaker panel and turn on the benches. :-)

With the price of memory being what it is compared to just over a year ago, even the thought of buying that much of it right now is painful.
