• Pressure on my mind

From shinobi@21:1/153 to All on Saturday, February 17, 2018 22:44:12
    Hello All,

just to let You know. When I try to change anything int the Mystic configuration sometimes it brings unexpected consequences.

Toady I told myself that I'll play a bit with the settings. So far
I made two changes. The first is to keep connected unlimited time.
I double there will be any more users on my BBSses. And when they will
it's their fault not to end up with the session. So I can hang on the
BBS unlimited time and keep reading from my extensions.

So far there is second change and that's the I tried to keep my session possible open for 24 hours. So I created another user level called hanger
with 1440 minutes available for the day. The consequence could be that
the user wouldn't log out anytime soon from the BBS and if kept hanging
only my myself could get him down. I doubt this is sane configuration but
at least for now and testing it will help me a lot not to keep the necessity
    to logon again and again.

And the third setting I changed it the shortened time for login. So I put
in the configuration 5 minutes. And guess what. When I even open the BBS
it says: 5 minutes left. First I thought my configuration is broken. And
then I recalled the moment of configuration change. So far at least I'm
glad my BBS is up and running and no damage has been done. I'm very much satisfied as being it private system to play with for both development and
    fun.

I hope nobody mind I'm cleaning up my thoughts here and hope to hear stories from Your bbs configurations too.

    Best regards

    Shinobi

That's fine for a Sysop acct. I can't say I would set a user up that way. Even if you wanted to grant users all the time in the world, nobody would actually spend 24 hours on the board straight. You might consider something like 23 hours, so it gives some opportunity to hang up in case of any odd glitches that keeps someone logged in, but I'd look at breaking that up if possible. Maybe 24 hours of access, but minimized to 4 hour increments at a time. That seems more logical. I still can't imagine someone spending 4
hours straight through, but if they're really into some door games, it could
be done I suppose. I think I might look into that a bit more myself. Give users 24 hours in a day but in 4 hour increments. I like that idea. It's not like the days of old where you're monopolizing a dialup single dialup line. Anyone can have a 10+ node BBS these days without the expense of 10 phone lines. :)

I don't think anybody will mind. We have all used this echo for 'thinking outloud' and bouncing ideas off of others. :)
