    I am about to install the new spell checker, I recently upgraded to Alpha 31, but what I do not know is if I am running the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version, I do not know what to have anything go wrong within the installation of the spellchecker.
    Thanks in advance for all replies.

    There is a spellcheck zip file that can be downloaded from the downloads page at mysticbbs.com. I forget exactly how I installed it now but the instructions are in there. If it still doesn't work after following the instructions in there I'll be glad to have a look at my setup and see what I did.

    Yes I found the file on the Mystic BBS webpage, but there is 1 of 2 files in there the first is called linhunspell32.dll and linhunspell64.dll of which
    get copied the route directory of mystic. There are other instructions too
    this is just the first part of them. Again I do not know which I have the 32 bit version or the 64 bit version. I have recently upgraded to the Alpha 31 version. I kinda of thought that this would be indicated when you go into
    the configuration menu and use about, it would tell you which, but the about feature does not yet work.
    Thanks in Advance,

    I have not used windows in more than 10 years. I wonder if you can right click on a file in windows and get any details about it?

    On linux I can use the file utility to get info about a file but I don't know if there is such a thing on windows. When I run "file mystic" I get this..

    mystic: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked , interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, stripped

    No, it doesn't. Do you remember if you used the 32 or 64 bit rar when you upgraded? I'm not sure if that depends on your installed version of mystic or the installed version of windows. Maybe install both and when It's working remove one or the other and see where it fails.

    ... In God we trust; all others pay cash.

    Hi Gregory.

    When you go to your windows control panel and click on the icon, what version of windows does the OS report? It will say if it's 32bit or 64 bit :)

    That's a good starting point. I'm fairly sure when we set things up for you you were running a 32 bit version of windows?

    Yes, in most versions of Windows, right click -> Properties

    I did some sleuthing and found the following info.

    Mystic BBS 1.12 Alpha 31 (32bit) - MYSTIC.EXE (779,776 bytes)

    Mystic BBS 1.12 Alpha 31 (64bit) - MYSTIC.EXE (1,008,640 bytes)

    From there you will be able to decide which version of the hunspell file you need to setup.

    [snip]

    Step #1: Hunspell Installation
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Windows:
    Copy appropriate .DLL into root Mystic directory or system lib path. Note
    that the 32-bit version of Mystic requires the 32-bit version of Hunspell,
    and the 64-bit version of Mystic requires the 64-bit version of Hunspell.
    For the 32-bit version, Mystic will be looking for libhunspell32.dll and
    for the 64-bit version, Mystic will be looking for the libhunspell64.dll.
    Copy the apropriate .dll into the root Mystic directory or somewhere else
    in your Windows system that is configured in a way that will allow Mystic
    to find it on startup.
    [snip]
    I'd still be interested in what your Windows OS says, because in the end if it's 64bit it will support both the 32 and 64 bit versions.
    If it says it's 32 bit then you won't be running Mystic 64 bit as it would
    have failed to install in the first place :)
    You are a massive help in keeping things straight.
    of which worked in the very message ^^^^^^^^
    :)
    The spell checker also helps to eliminate fat finger when typing a message quickly, sometimes too quickly, to ensure that the words are spelled
    correctly.
    Appreciate your help and guidance so much!
    Great! Good to hear, I know it's a big help to me. My spelling has never been great so I rely on spelling checkers and turn them on in Firefox and other things. It was one of two reasons for upgrading to Alpha 31 for me, the other was Telnet Out working including upload/download.
    Yup, works great this spell checker at least monitors as the letters are
    typed into words for spelling not even Thunderbird email client does that.
    Frankly I'm a little surprised at how so many folks stick with
    buggy, closed-source software, where the author disappears for
    months at a time, with no notice or reason given... Coming up on
    a year now since the last update, isn't it?
    The last update from g00r00 came out in March 2019 so yep we're ten months since last release. As for bugs, it is alpha code so some are to be expected, but I don't deny this current 2020 issue is a major one (I've just added
    info to the Wiki about it to signal to folks to be aware of it) ... and I (like others) hope it will be addressed and fixed as soon as possible.
    g00r00's reasons from staying closed source are on record on the Wiki. I
    agree when he is not around and stuff like this appears it makes getting a sense of when stuff will be addressed harder to gauge and a bit frustrating
    for those of us who enjoy using Mystic as our BBS software of choice.
    But in saying that, it is his software, his labour of love and his call
    weather to keep it closed or open source etc. and as users we are just
    that... users ... not authors of it, under the current closed operating
    model.
    While I do wish for an model whereby even some folks other than just g00r00 could contribute code to the Mystic project, at this stage that's not the case.
    Maybe you guys should upgrade to Synchronet... Problems are
    addressed nearly in real-time (by the author and others), and it's open-source so you can change it yourself if you want.
    Rob aka Digital Man has a great BBS package, of that there is no doubt. It's great to see Synchronet gaining popularity due to it's rich features etc. and I'd say many more will give it a go this year for a whole bunch of reasons.
    For me I'm going to stick with Mystic at this time as on balance despite the known issues I think it's cool software and offers lots for me to warrant using it and continuing to enjoy it.
    I'm sure folks who are using much older, far more legacy FTN software
    packages in 2020 may well also hold similar views on that subject :)
