Seems split screen chat mode is broken in Pre Alpha 37 on my Windows Mystic
    Pre Alpha A37 latest version.

Hitting ALT S "Break into split screen chat mode" goes right into ALT C "Break into line chat mode" ...Bummer

    Can anyone confirm this?

When will Linux see this? And will we keep nodespy for us folks who run
Mystic in daemon mode on headless servers?

Its on the list to be done somewhat soon (ish), but its not a top priority at the moment. The priority might get bumped up once I finish moving my BBS to Linux though ;)

For us Linux folks (and you are getting many more) - if we run headless, its imperative that you keep Nodespy for us to be able to view our connections,
or chat. Unless you change something up.

I don't run a home based BBS, I run a datacenter hosted BBS - so its the only tool I have. I would hate to have to run MIS in graphical mode then I would have to run screen and keep the processes open all the time. Thats annoying.

I like to run it headless and watch logs. I SSH in to configure. And loving
the ANSI editor. I can edit directly on my machine now, especically small
    files that need minor changes.

So my suggestion: Keep nodespy, add in split screen. That would be awesome. I dont know about everyone else, but I never use nodespy to dial other bbs from my bbs though. I use my local machines.

Appreciate being able to give you suggestions, and you normally take them, aside from maybe doing something that makes even more sense. You have
honestly developed the best BBS system I have ever seen.

Heres the top things I would like to see added/changed. I think they are on your list and simple(ish) - I also know we have requested before:

    1) Split screen chat
    2) Nodespy staying (maybe upgraded?)
    3) MOST IMPORTANT: PLease, please, please get email working. Full fledged
email server incorporated in the BBS. Relay control. mailbox. multiple domain support, Aliases. SMTP AUTH, attachments, etc. I would love to move all my domains over to mystic email.

I know some folks care nothing about email. I know others do. I find that
super important. And I know you got so much code already done, its like your teasing us with it. Like that geico commercial (almost got it, almost). Haha.

Thanks again g00r00. I started in Mystic what a year or two ago, and its a whole new BBS now.

To clarify: What I said was that split screen chat being added into Nodespy isn't a big priority right now. The reason its not is because it will require lots of other changes beyond just adding split chat, and the effort to make it happen isn't worth the reward compared to other things (at the moment).

I'm not removing the ability to run your BBS headless in Unix; I am not sure where you got that from but its not happening :)

I know some folks care nothing about email. I know others do. I find that super important. And I know you got so much code already done, its like

The reason its disabled is because it was completely unusable. Most e-mails are HTML with tons of image attachments and they are complete jibberish when translated to a BBS format. They also take up a lot of disk space, CPU resources, etc, when you have 50 users getting spam e-mail all day.

After experimenting with the idea the conclusion was that using a BBS for a primary e-mail client was a silly concept, and only worked well when sending e-mail between users on a BBS or pushing Sysop e-mail to a mobile phone (which are things it does support now).

If you're looking for an e-mail service that operates independent of a BBS (which is sounds like you are) then you probably shouldn't be looking at a BBS to do it. There are plenty of free servers on all platforms that have better support, decades of development under their wings, webmail, etc, and will always do a better job than any BBS software would.

I still do plan to open up e-mail from outside sources (optionally) and to have a mail spooler SMTP client, so you will get some of the functionality you probably want - but the reality is that its intended for doing things like password resets via e-mail, not provide you with an e-mail suite to rival gmail.com. :P

It may not be as robust as you're hoping or at least it may take a while to
be as robust as you'd like.

super important. And I know you got so much code already done, its like your teasing us with it. Like that geico commercial (almost got it,

I've pretty much stood by my same story for years, no teasing! :)

I think) some chatter on here about nodespy going away. I was just looking
out for our interest as headless Linux users because if that happened, we really have no way to check the bbs, chat, or watch the bbs. I didnt think
that was happening, but just was making sure.

I'm not removing the ability to run your BBS headless in Unix; I am not sure where you got that from but its not happening :)

See above - just saw chatter.

After experimenting with the idea the conclusion was that using a BBS

when sending e-mail between users on a BBS or pushing Sysop e-mail to a mobile phone (which are things it does support now).

I agree. I don't think using a BBS as a primary email server is a good idea. However, I completely think that a modern implementation of a BBS should be
the ability for the said BBS to be able to send simple, plain text emails, via SMTP from system to system. Mystic is fantastic and getting better at
echomail, but I think its imperative that we be able send simple text only emails. A user should be able to send a text email, echomail, or netmail to
any other BBS user. Many BBS software packages that are still around have adopted email in this format. That was more or less what I was trying to say.
I have no intentions on running a full fledged email server off my BBS box (I have postfix/dovecot setup for my email and gmail) but I would like to send/receive bbs related emails to folks through my bbs, pop3, and smtp. I
just wanted to make what I was thinking clear. I simply want to be able to communicate text only with other users over email and it would be great to
have that in my email box in Mystic. That simple. With that, i would hope we had smtp auth (which we do) multiple domain support, and relay.cfg or
something that configures who/what is allowed relaying (in case we have multiple points to relay from/through.

If you're looking for an e-mail service that operates independent of a

Agreed and I already have that. I am looking as I said for more or less a BBS email communication solution as stated above.

I still do plan to open up e-mail from outside sources (optionally) and
to have a mail spooler SMTP client, so you will get some of the functionality you probably want - but the reality is that its intended
for doing things like password resets via e-mail, not provide you with

Doesnt have to rival gmail. But passing text only messages as stated would be fantastic. I honestly love how SBBS does their emaikl (just not a fan of the JS) They have one mailbox and local, email and netmail are all there. That makes it easy for a user to manage local, netmail, and email from a pop3 connection. I have a lot I dislike about SBBS and love about Mystic, but this is the one thing I miss about SBBS. Mystic is better++ in my view in all oter aspects yet I know you are working to make this resolved. I know the idea of netamil in a echo fashion also, but it sure is nice to be on my phone and see my netmails, emails, and local messages. And yes, I know cant reply to netmails over pop3 but it was nice to see them come in and keep up with stuff while on the go. Thats modern bbsing in my opinion.

Again, thanks for your hard work g00r00! These are all suggestions and just
my point of view on some things. I know you work hard on this and its appreciated so please only take it as simple, friendly suggestions and chat!
We all work on our BBS's differtly so I like to put my opinions out there.

The chatter was about moving the nodespy-like functions into mis.

The biggest issue with doing this in Mystic is that I am bound by JAM message bases, so in order for Mystic to support 3rd party tossers, I can't really do something like this where Netmail is combined with local e-mail and Internet e-mail.

I've been considering allowing an option to use the e-mail base for Netmail only if you're using Mystic to toss messages because I agree that its a nice way to do things.
