• Migrating from RPi to full arch Mini-ITX

From Indrid Cold@21:1/165 to All on Saturday, September 24, 2016 15:05:00
    Hello Team,

another one of my doubts, and I would like to thank you * again * Avon and
you all to be so kind and for making this NET possibile, and base to let me learn a lot.

As I've said other times, I'm currently hosting Mystic on Raspberry Pi 1B -
I'm happy with this situation, optimal for consumption, low heat and low space-taking. I'm LESS happy talking about the things I can't experiment or fully-experiment, like many doors, 'traslation' from DOS environment in many
of these, and overall, many python scripts that seem to not work 100% in RPi.

I've got an old Mini-ITX for Athlon X2, and I've got plenty of hardware to build a mini-PC or a full-PC, minimum dual-core. If I'll choose to migrate, which is the best way to 'move' all the config from a system to another, with different arch - there's a precise list of files I've to backup and move to
the new folder with the compiled EXEs of the new arch?

There's anyone of you that have done this before?

After you move your mystic elsewhere run mystic -paths and you will be able to change your system paths there. You also need to check the path of your themes and make sure they are what they need to be. You may need to adjust your message and file area paths as well from mystic -cfg.

I have only ever done this on linux but I think that will work in other cases too.

Thanks Al, I'm not sure yet about migrating from RPi, but these are useful info, just in case I'll move...

Just to add to this, the case of data files is also important especially when moving from windows > linux

Check the wiki for a bit of help in the FAQ

That may not even be necessary, he might simply be able to copy the tree to the same place on the new system, substitute the x86 binaries from the same version, then make sure ownership of the tree is correct for the new system. That would likely work if I did it with my board, because Mystic is in /mystic, which I can reproduce on any Linux system.

Going from Linux to Windows or vice-versa, you will definitely need to use mystic -paths to fix up the paths in the configuration.

    Thanks Paul,

I don't know yet if I'll pass on bigger machine, for my BBS - but if so, I would keep using Linux, obviously * I use Debian everyday - I'm a little
afraid about re-confguration of everything and correct migration of old
configs / and power consumption, of course! But I think it is useful to know, just in case I'll choose to upgrade.
