• Shell Door

From George Hall@21:1/156 to All on Monday, November 27, 2017 20:25:24
    Hi Everyone,
Has there ever been an external door program available for Mystic BBS that would allow a DOS shell available for sysops? I have looked around and
    haven't seen such a thing.

These days people use RDP (Remote Desktop) in Windows or SSH in Linux so I haven't bothered with a remote DOS-like shell since probably around 1999.

Mystic used to have "Mystic-DOS" way back in 1.05 or so but it doesn't have one anymore.

I may do a file manager type thing built into Mystic at some point, but it would probably be something more along the lines of Norton Commander than it would be to DOS. Or who knows maybe I'll do DOS for nostalgia :)

Good point. I would normally do just this. For me its just for the option of maybe doing a Fidopoll or running one of my many mail scripts while logged
on. I thought maybe it was because of security/hack issues.

Just add menu commands to you sysop menu (or any other menu you want), and call a door command (DD), and call fidopoll etc.

You could set up a command in a menu to run those if you wanted to. I know its not the same thing as having a full blown shell but it might accomplish what you're hoping to accomplish!
