• Upgrade/Alpha

From Jon Justvig@21:1/154 to All on Sunday, November 26, 2017 12:14:50
    All,

After upgrading to the latest Mystic Alpha, everything looks peachy except I
do not see anything in the events window with MIS. Anyone have a similar experience? Should I just be running MIS2 now that seems like the next thing to come?

I copied over all the executables and updated the scripts as described in the upgrade.txt, except this one thing...

    Sincerely,
    Jon Justvig

Yes, as of the pre-alpha versions of A36, g00r00 has moved the events over to MIS2. :)

Ah, so that is why they are working in MIS2. I have switched to MIS2 and thinks seem all and good...just needing a few of my downlinks to send across their AKA then all will be sweet and I will sleep. :)

If you are on A36 Alpha's the events are now MIS2 only not in MIS. Also yes you only need to run MIS2 with the A36 pre-alpha's.

    Cheers!

Awesome! That is exactly I have done. I figure MIS will be obsolete once
MIS2 has been completed. We are not far off from to seeing a great future
for Mystic and the SysOps there-in.

On a good note, I am a ZC for my network and the logs are much more
attainable and managable than other BBS software I have ran in the past. I
can just scroll in the MIS2 window if something goes wrong then having to
stop, load up a directory, go into the logs, edit and all that jazz.

Yes, you should switch to MIS2.

MIS is going away and will be removed very soon.

I was possibly planning to also build a "log viewer" right into MIS too as a tab you can go to. It will show you a list of the logs in the logs directory and allow you to "tail" them just like the messages window.

The actual logs tend to have a little more detail in them than the messages window, so that will give the best of both worlds.

I am trying to come up with ways to make 80x25 text window very usable but there is always room for improvement. I am also looking into adding optional 80x50 and/or 132x43 modes for MIS so that we have more real estate to work with.

FYI: under Windows 7/XP I use a 132x60 minimum "text" window by default for my own home-grown File Manager (DASD Vision, written in PowerBasic). This works well with a 1920x1080 display, even running WinXP in a VM. I am testing it under Wins 10 at present but from the gitgo it has worked flawlessly. :)

Both "Mode Con..." (Win DVM (CMD)) and "Console Set Screen..." (PBasic) support

this. Actually I allow Rows to be specified as 60-100 and Columns 132-240, also

supported by both (tested vigorously under Win XP 32-bit and Win 7 64-bit).

Also, I do a lot of "tail"ing of log files using the GNU tail -f ... command for Mystic quite successfully. I just have to specify a wildcard (*.log) in the

C:\Mystic\logs\ directory for a complete monitor (run from a BATch file). :)

    p.s. Maybe an option in config for screen size? {chuckle}

That would be wonderful. I like that idea. I noticed in earlier versions of MIS that the log would jumble multiple connections and hard to follow. Could one session be in one portion as connections come in and the next to follow?

The actual logs tend to have a little more detail in them than the messages window, so that will give the best of both worlds.

    Sounds great to me!

Make it optional but not mantatory. I do like the 80x25 as it feels more retro. 80x50 or 132x43 could make the text smaller than a desirable size. I have a fairly big screen, as it is, 80x25 works wonderful.
