    g00r00,

Moving our NNTP troubles thread here.

Okay so I am still not able to reproduce the issue with the 11/23 version.

Have you tried to log into the BBS and read the messages in the area that it seems to be crashing with? It looked like the area didn't have any messages in it.

I can get access to a family members' iPad at some point if we can't get to the bottom of things any other way. Is the news reader you use a paid or free app?

Free app, also, there are a ton of messages on the echo. I have tried the fsxnet echoes and others.

It will say pulling 1 header in app then say bad auth sequence. The NNTP
server will then not respond again until you restart it.

Note: this same app worked fine with sbbs. That's the only other NNTP server
    I tried.

I know the log said no messages, I saw that, but that echo had like 40
messages in it on my bbs.

I restarted the NNTP and then was able to pull all of them. It's so weird. It only happens when you subscribe to an echo, any echo, the first time then
pull messages. It will do that on empty or echoes with messages.

I've had this same issue with every Linux version of NNTP with mystic

To get the exact app in writing this on, on iPad, go to App Store. Get yrnews usenet reader.

    Free app.

    Thanks for the help g00r00

It also did the same thing with the free version of newstap usenet reader I tried for testing.

Could it be any type of setting in the message base config?

I'm not sure. I was able to borrow an iPad for a while today and I connected just fine using NewsTap. The NNTP server was running on Linux/64. There were no crashes and I was able to sub to two areas and read/reply to messages without any issues.

Are you running MIS2 with sudo? Are the access rights for all the files showing the same owners as the mis2 binary? Have you ever packed your
    message bases?

I didn't try the same app as you because yrNews wasn't free for the iPad. I would have had to buy it on her iPad and I don't think she would have appreciated that lol

I am going to be making lots of changes to the NNTP server now that it is in MIS2 so I'll keep trying to figure it out, but so far I can't make it crash.

I could give you access to my bbs and you could try it there.

    g00r00,

Do you think that you any chance any message base settings could case the inability to pull messages after subscribing when messages are there?

I have no idea what setting would, but something is causing this:

    I have:

    1) packed message bases (3 times a week with my maint.sh) script and once locally or manually,

    2) checked permissions - they are all set to the local non root user every
    file is

    3) I run mis2 from a cron job at reboot by root:

    In sudo crontab -e

    @reboot /var/opt/mystic/mis2 -daemon

Note: /var/opt/mystic has correct permissions as do all files.

    That should read

    @reboot /bar/opt/mystic/./mis -daemon

In crontab for my reboot script. Works fine.

Also part of a script that starts mrc too which works fine.

No, I think its probably not an issue with your setup. If you've checked those common errors to make sure nothing was out of whack then its probably just a bug I need to find and fix.

I am going to build a new Linux version today with some changes to see if it helps at all, so look for a new "11/25" version and give it a try when you
    can.

I did find some bad code in the situation where there are no messages and Mystic is trying to create the message base (rather than open it). I've hopefully cleaned that up, and maybe it will fix your problem. I guess we'll see soon enough!
