• Posting to a Group via external email

From NIA01@21:2/108 to All on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 10:12:06
I am trying to post my alerts to a local message group via email. I have been able to send emails to users of the BBS via Thunderbird if I set Thunderbird
to connect directly to the BBS smtp server, but I can not send to the same
user via my gmail account. The BBS smtp server may not support relaying, I'm not sure.

I would ultimately like to email directly into a message base. Is this even possible?

Yes, it refuses unknown people trying to send users e-mail. I'll be removing this restriction though sometime after I get the SMTP server moved into MIS2.

Internet e-mail really doesn't translate well to the BBS, so it was restricted but it seems enough people want the option so I plan to enable it.

No, you cannot send an e-mail into a message base unless I can figure out a good reason to allow it and come up with how it would work. I am open to
ideas in this area if you (or anyone) has them.

As its planned now you'll only be able to send an e-mail to a user's e-mail box. If you can get your information in a file you can post text files to
    any message base.

I'm for g00r00 idea. Internet email to mailboxes.

One way to do it is use a mailing list, which would also allow the messagebase to send new posts out as email. Allowing the "nomail" subscription option would allow one way email, without opening it up to spam. But that would be a fair bit of work. Just thinking out loud.

Let me make a note of this in the TODO to try to come up with something to allow this once I get around to fixing up the mail servers. I think this
    could be a useful option!

I have created a Delphi program that will read an email box and then send it along to a newsgroup/message base in mystic. I am still making the program a little more user configurable, but when it is done you are welcome to use it.

Cool! I like the mailing list option for some things. Another thing to keep in mind for future use. :)

Interesting idea. I tend not to use mailboxes this way myself, because you often need one per group (unless you use special formatting). I prefer solutions that can take mail from the SMTP server as it comes in and process it acordingly. That way, you can use multiple usernames easily (e.g. one for each mailing list you want to host).
