• Message Header Modding.

From Weatherman@21:1/170 to All on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 15:56:00
Just curious if anyone has done any message header modding to Mystic? I'm
just looking for some creative ideas to customize things in the header and reading messages area in general.

    Thanks!

I change the headers and stuff all the time, but haven't gone in to that .ans yet. They can be a bit cryptic so 'save all the widgets' as they say - backup the original setup before you mod it, then mod away ;) I generally find I can do most anything I want after some experimenting with it. I know Paul had modified his Index Message Reader's header to fix the the message number to 5 digits. I haven't wanted to modify that stuff yet, but I wonder about fixing links sometimes when they are missing or incorrect.
That use to both me on Fidonet (back when it was Fidonet - 1980s) it did the same as Mystic, different links going up than down the list. Not sure why, but some of it is the titles being truncated by other software. I'd have to write my own message reader first so I could modify that field (links).

I've replaced both my message list header and the message reading header over here. I'll put a screenshot up at the board's Twitter if you want. @ShadowscopeBBS. Give me a couple minutes and they'll be up.

I didn't know if there was a document that went into the variables that can
be used in the header or are the ones being used all of them? Just curious, since I like modding and changing things around - just wanted to know what extent is possible.

For example - changing the 24 hour time in the message reading header to 12 hour am/pm.

    Thanks.

Well, this begs the question: Why aren't you calling around to other boards
to see what they have going on?

N00b question here. How do I display the header to see what it even looks
    like?

    Thanks much!

That is actually not something that can be changed in the ansi file. What
you are seeing is what your default time format is. You have to change that
in your account setup. But now that I say that, i'm not sure that there is a way to change from 12 to 24 hour format. I know you can change your date format, but I'm not entirely certain you can change your time format.

That is something I want to do, but lack of time is the main issue. Going to be taking some time off work next week so I might be doing some visiting. :)

Nice, thanks! Looks really cool! Did you use TheDraw to edit the *.ANS file or Pablo Draw?

You are using the same variables in the header - just lots of cosmetic
changes. I didn't know if there were additional variables you could use in there or not.

I use TheDraw. I've only messed with Pablo Draw a little and am not very good with it yet.

Not sure. I haven't had time to look through the docs as much as I would like to.
