• Commands in Mystic

From MaDDoG@21:2/125 to All on Saturday, September 09, 2017 10:51:15
    Hi there,

Is there a way that i can have multiple commands that start with the same letter. For example i have 2 commands in my main menu "D" for the command Download and "Doors" for Door Games. The question is can i tell Mystic that when the letter "D" is pressed not to execute the Download command but to
wait for a <enter> by the user so he can type "Doors" if he wants.

I hope you guys understand what I mean.

    Regards,

    MaDDoG

There sure is... and it's a simple thing...

    Go to mystic -cfg
    Edit Menu
Select the Menu you want to Edit...
    Press /
    Select Settings
Change the Input Type to LongKey
    Esc and Save out.
Now all menu commands will require the user to press Enter

Yep, go into the settings for your menu and set input type to "LongInput" and that will disable the hotkeys and make it more PCBoard-ish.

Quick answer No, but you can have a D and a /D. If you look at the main menu and some others / can work, I'm not sure if it's only / or non-alpha characters, but there is something special there. When you hit / it waits for another character to pick which / you want. D1 doesn't work, but /D does.

2 people say it can. I haven't tried it yet but I think what they said could work. When it does not work you will see me in here again. But if I dont

Sorry man! I didn't mean to give out trade secrets, hehehe. My most recent theme on my Mystic setup is sort of PCBoard-ish, but it uses all hotkey
    input, hehe.

You have to go into the /S of the menu (Menu Settings) and set it to longkeys, and then you can put whatever you want and Mystic will wait for enter.

So you can have menus like:

    (MAIN)
    (DOORS)
    (D) Download
    etc

You can come really close to the PCBoard experience with Mystic, except
Mystic has an editor and reading system that is much friendlier to use, heheh.

My latest theme is a mashup of PCBoard and AmigaExpress... first came
PCBoard, then Ami/X tried to emulate PCBoard, then PCBoard sysops tried to emulate Ami/X, and now I'm using Mystic to emulate Ami/X... it's a circle of madness.

Yeah it really is zero, well like i said i am working on new theme one with ami/x looks pcboard'isch and a theme with full blown ansi's also
pcboard'isch. And yes the big advantage of Mystic is the mail availability.

I managed to get FTN mail flowing with PCBoard and IREX this past weekend. It wasn't too hard despite PCBoard's quirks trying to derail me. I can point you to a good tutorial if you need it.

But either way, I still contend Mystic has the best reading/writing system
for messages of any BBS I've ever used.

You typically apply for a node number with your local/regional fido coordinator. You should be able to apply online at fidonet.org. Then you need to find someone who can feed you the mail. I get mine from Fluph BBS, but I think Avon offers a feed also. I had to nag people to get my node number as
the local coordinator wasn't really responsive here until Janis got involved.

All that being said, Fidonet really doesn't offer anything of interest to me and I don't know whether it's even worth bothering with anymore, but YMMV. I have at least one user who keeps the political debate lively, so I keep it running for that, and the Mystic base is OK.

Do you want a point or a full node? FOr a point, there is no formal process, you just ask your boss node (the BBS you want to take a feed from) if you can be a point off their system, or if you're like me and have 2 BBSs, one of which is a Fidonet node, you can simply set the second BBS up as a point off the first - no paperwork needed. :)

If you want a full node number, you need to find the nearest *C in the nodelist and send them a netmail using one of the addresses specified in Policy4 as your source Fide address (like zone:net/9999).
