• User ID #s reset

From deepthaw@21:2/136 to All on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 14:44:45
I've run into a situation where my user IDs appear to have reset and started counting back up from 1.

I did have an error a while back that required recreating my main mystic data file (but not the user datafile) - could that be the cause?

Is there any way to fix this before it causes any problems?

You can run 'mbbsutil -fixindex', and that will renumber them.

Yes, g00r00 had stated that the user.dat and mystic.dat are linked. If one of them is restored from a back-up or something, it will start causing issues
    with the numbering.

He did state that he was going to look into unlinking the two file in the future.

Okay, I did that. For some reason, bbslink is still linking to the right characters in LORD which I thought this would mix up. As long as it fixes things!

Yes check for duplicate IDs, if you find any use mbbsutil -fixindex to fix them. There to seem to be issues with mis as well. I just had two copies and either was working so I couldn't login till I rebooted the system. Not sure what it was doing or if it's the newest version so will download again and update tonight.
Hmm, I see someone just said that - never mind ;)

Yes, that is exactly the cause.

    mbbsutil -fixindex

That might fix it. If it doesn't let me know and I'll figure something out.

It did fix it but I'm curious about something now. Despite my account's user
ID changing from 1 to 15, door games through bbslink.net that were using my account # still work.

Is that number stored separately from the ID I could see in the user editor?

I am assuming BBSLINK uses your name, not your number. The account number I would guess is a BBS account number?
