• MIS shutting down

From Immortal@21:1/185 to All on Tuesday, July 04, 2017 19:04:32
So, I updated to A34 on Sunday and everything seemed to be running smoothly. Two days in a row now I have tried connecting via telnet and mystic is not answering. MIS appears to be running as BINKP is up and my events are executing, however the mis.log shows:

    MIS received SIGTERM; shutting down

It shows that in the log and apparently kills the telnet server but MIS itself is still running. I've moved the telnet server over to MIS2 and see what happens.

I had no issues whatsoever before upgrading. 30+ days of uptime between reboots and it was stable as a rock. Linux Mint 32 bit, running as a daemon
    on real hardware.

Curious you have a reload script for MIS/MIS2 correct? The apps crashing for one reason or another led most of us to create a reload script in case of
    these issues. :)

    Cheers!

Yes! I had this very same issue on the Raspberry Pi. I tried MIS2 but it was throwing an error 214 when I'd try to connect. I just rolled back to the previous version I was on and haven't had any issues.

If he's having the same issue I was, the reload script doesn't work because
the system still shows MIS is running with multiple PIDs. I couldn't even
kill the hung processes without rebooting when I was having this issue.

That sounds like a dead pool, the script I created for this issue works
without loading more than one and ensures to kill the mis.bsy files if needed.

Most of the time that is the biggest issue.

Yes, and the script works just fine! Orbit is using it for mis, mis2 and mystic relay chat.

Is there somewhere I can look at it?

I'm using Tony's reload script now, but the dead pool as you called it, was being created before I started using any script. MIS would fail repeatedly during the day. Went back to an earlier version and I don't have these issues anymore.

I'm happy to remain on the older version until things settle down!

Since switching the telnet server from MIS to MIS2, it has been up for 24 hours with no problems. <crosses fingers>

Hey Pequito, glad to see you're back. I do have it running using your reload script. I'm assuming the script never re-starts MIS because MIS never
actually stops running, just the telnet server.

Yep. I had to reboot to kill it. There were three different PIDs of MIS and
    I couldn't kill them.

Not sure if Tony was using a modded version of what I have but here is my script I use the KORN shell vs bash and works without a hitch.

I was having the same problem. Multiple PIDs for MIS, unable to connect. I decided to switch over to MIS2 and since then had no issues. As MIS is to be discontinued I'm happy just to stay with MIS2.

I'll take a look and probably copy this one over and use it since it includes mis2, the old one was only loading mis. I forget where we call this script at boot, I don't see it in crontab. I was looking for it the other day, I see that it's running but can't remember where it loads. It's been so stable that I forgot how it runs! lol

Wow I thought it was just me! Every time I start up mis it runs for a few minutes and when I turn around its down. Guess I need to see about rolling

Try A33, A34 doesn't run well on the Pi I've found. A33 does pretty good but you need to have badip.txt, goodip.txt setup and likely BLOCK
    Russia, China Turkey and such.

Just set an alternate port besides 23... Too much IOT scanning BS out there. I can't wait until I can force SSH to even get to the BBS matrix...

Yep MIS2 doesn't work well in Pi on those versions. A35 should be much
    better for MIS2.

The problem has been that I haven't unpacked my Pi3 yet so I can't release
A35 until I get the Pi going again to compile and test.
