• Blocking and NNTP Linux issue

From Nugax@21:1/107 to All on Sunday, May 28, 2017 23:47:06
    G00r00,

So I found my ip for my sprint cell was listed in dnsbl. If set to on, it blacklisted me everytime. Any idea how to fix that?

    #2,

The Linux NNTP server seems to crash when you subscript in your client to a
new area, then pull first time. You restart and pull and it seems to work
fine for a pretty long while.

    Thanks

This happens in my iPhone app of the below app: yrnews.

It has been running fine since I subscribed and added the channels.

I used to use this same app with windows mystic and it never gave an issue. Only started since I used Linux.

    Hope that helps a bit!
    Thanks g00r00!

    G00r00,

So I found my ip for my sprint cell was listed in dnsbl. If set to on, it blacklisted me everytime. Any idea how to fix that?

This isn't something I can fix; it is pretty common I hear with mobile
networks for someone to do something that gets their IP added to the block list.

If you want it removed you'd have to create a ticket with your blacklist service that you are using.

You could also add the IP to the whitelist so that Mystic will always accept it, even when blocked by DNS blacklists.

The Linux NNTP server seems to crash when you subscript in your client
to a new area, then pull first time. You restart and pull and it seems
to work fine for a pretty long while.

Do you have a log you can send over? I think the NNTP logs show the client server interaction so that I can test.

    g00r00,

I replicated the issue. Here is the exact output when the newly subscribed
    area was refreshed for messages:

Then it times out, and I have to completely restart the entire server. I
killed the mis process and restarted and still couldnt connect over telnet. After a reboot, it did connect.

This has happened for quite a while, but I have only seen it on Linux.

    Thanks,

Add the IP to goodip.txt. That will do.

The Linux NNTP server seems to crash when you subscript in your client
to a new area, then pull first time. You restart and pull and it seems
to work fine for a pretty long while.

You should check your logs, but most NNTP clients will send the command "MODE READER" upon connecting, which by the standards is not mandatory, but sometimes the server gets a little confused by it. Usually it answers with a "500 Unknown Command", but take a look at the logs, that might be the case,
as sometimes the client does not "like" that kind of answer and starts
    lagging after it.

Try also with the client I use, it's called NewsTap.

    g00r00,

Can you code something into NNTP servers so that if they get that command,
the server won't crash? Probably can just ignore it.

That would fix my issue with the NNTP server.

Yes, it crashes everytime i add a new message area to my client then pull messages.

I have to completely restart the Linux machine to get it to work again.

Yes, it crashes everytime i add a new message area to my client then pull messages.

I can confirm that I have the same problem. Using the news reader app on
the iphone appears to crash the mis service. What I have discovered is that
if you limit the number of requests from the client to 100 and set the number of connections to 101 on the NNTP service, things improve a bit. The iphone app is downloading the complete message and not just reading the headers. So it appears to be making a lot of connections, very quickly, which overload
the MIS service??? or something else...

But limiting to 100 connections it does not work every time and the MIS services appears to get into some kind of BUZY status. You can no longer connect and you receive the BUZY message. Only a restart of the MIS service will fix that.

I use the NewsTap App. Running Mystic A33 on Ubuntu 16.04.

    Kate.
