• Dosbox, Doorway, Ansi

From Captain Obvious@21:1/157 to All on Monday, September 12, 2016 09:59:00
Was hoping to get some suggestions from folks. I picked up a new PC and moved my system to a Win7 32bit computer last week so that I could have a dedicated system for the BBS rather than running it on mine.

Most door games work OOTB but a few I've had to use Doorway to get to work
and some of the really old (or maybe just badly written, IDK) I have to use Dosbox AND Doorway in order to get them to run. Most likely it just has to do with the much faster architecture.

Anyway, there's a least one I am running that way and on the remote end the Ansi is somewhat skewed. It shows up fine on this end when I monitor the
caller from this end but looks slightly messed up on the remote end (using Netrunner, I haven't tried it from Ftelnet on my page yet).

This is my commandline to run the game:

    c:\dosbox\dosbox.exe -c "cd\mystic\doors\4cyte" -c "c:\apps\bnu.com /f" -c "c: \mystic\doors\doorway\doorway.exe SYSF /G:ON /S:C:\Mystic\temp%1 /O:T /B:M /P:c:\mystic\doors\4cyte\4cyte.exe c:\Mystic\temp%1\DOOR.SYS 4CYTE%1.cfg" -socket %2 -c "exit"

Anyone here have experience using Doorway and Dosbox together?

I can help out, probably. I had the same issue with the DOS games I run, and
it was because DOSBox was set to run a little too fast.

CTRL-F11 and CTRL-F12 will speed up or slow down the CPU cycles within
DOSBox. Mine is set to 1,000 cycles and no frameskip, but it might be
different for you. Try a setting of 500 and go from there for yours.

Good deal, I'll try it out. Most of the games are working fine that I need
them for thanks to your page over there. It's interesting the number of them that work just fine without it, and then with just Doorway. The really old
ones obviously I am having to use both.

Yeah, the HOW-TO was mainly for the old DOS text games, with a smattering of security thrown in and to let each person have their own personal copy of the games. You could definitely skip a bunch of steps if you were using actual
    door games.

I am sorry to bother you but do you think you might be able to complete my application on DoorParty?

No bother man, but I'm still not seeing an application. I reset your password on the wiki to what you requested, did you login to the wiki and send the
app? I'll send you a copy of the application in an email as well, just in
    case.

    Does Mystic use jsdoor?

I have not seen anyone using JS with Mystic.

Mystic supports MPL programs compiled with it's own MPL compiler. MPL is a pascal like language. Many doors and utilities have been written using the MPL language. Mystic also has support for Python.

    Does Mystic use jsdoor?

The point of jsdoor will be to allow (some) Synchronet JS modules to run independently - so they can be run as doors under *any* other BBS.

It isn't done yet as far as I know. And even if/when it is, existing games etc. would probably need to be adapted slightly in order to work with it. It's
likely that the LORD port will be the first Synchronet JS game usable this way, and it may remain the only one for some time.
