When i invoke a direct chat with a user, the ansichat.ans files is not displayed. The screen goes totally black with a top line as a header and nothing else.

Am i doing something wrong? :?

Silly question... Is your ansichat.ans located in your
    c:\Mystic\Text folder (or /mystic/text for Linux/Pi)... ???
If it cannot find the file ansichat.ans then it will not display...

The file is certainly in the folder. This is not the problem. I also made
sure that it has the appropriate permissions.

I found some old messages in here, that said something about two chat modes. One is by pressing ALT-C and the other ALT-S... are these ment to be for Nodespy or something? :? I am confused...

modes. One is by pressing ALT-C and the other ALT-S... are these ment to be for Nodespy or something? :? I am confused...

Ok... There are 2 ways you can begin Chat... Actually 3 ways.

If you are in NodeSpy, select the user, Press enter and select "C)hat with user".

If you use Windows, when someone logs onto the BBS, you see a "Running
Program" Bar at the bottom of Windows. if you Open this windows, you will
see "Press Alt-V to View". Pressing Alt-V there will let you watch what the user is doing, like Nodespy...
And just like Nodespy, in this window, you can press Alt-C to start Chat with the user..

But in both of those above, it does NOT display the ansichat.ans file.

HOWEVER, if in the Windows View window, you press Alt-S, then it will go into Chat using the ansichat.ans file...

The Ansichat.ans file is only displayed if you open the Node being at the bottom of the Windows Screen, Alt-V to View the person connected, then if you want to Ansi-Chat with them, Press ALT-S in this window...

I think its the same in Mystic Pi or Linux. Not sure, I've not run Linux/Pi Mystic in a long time so I can't remember if a connected user is displayed as an Openable Window or not...

Hope this clears it up for you.

Have you modified your default.txt file to reflect the proper ansi file? I know that many system ANSI's are invoked by the default.txt theme file. If you've altered the line that invokes it, you will have issues.

Meh, nevermind. I just checked my default.txt and I can find no reference to ansichat. So I guess that was a bust.

Yep on a windows system ALT-S calls the split screen chat as per the above steps and uses ansichat.ans template. The .ans file should reside in the mystic\text directory.

Nodespy will only invoke the inter-node chat option it seems. Either via the 'user chat' menu option when the sysop selects the node they want to inspect
or by selecting the 'snoop' option and then using ALT-C to invoke the same inter-node chat system.

ALT-C and ALT-S only work if you are viewing a user session via a window...
and I am not sure (not yet tested) if this is do-able in Linux / RPi.

I don;t think is doable. I tried and didn't find anything. Did someone else succeed to use this screen in Linux/rpi systems?

The only do-able why for the sysop to chat with any user node in linux is to use nodespy. Choose an active node hit enter the pick the 2nd option to chat user. I've done this in Linux-Mint with mystic 1.12 any build version. It will only show a default nodespy chat bar, for both sides.. not the ansichat screen.

It should also work with a rpi, I would think.. since I don't own one I'm not sure about it working on that device.

To my knowledge only the Windows version work with ansichat screens, both Linux

and rpi can only chat with user in nodespy using the chat user option. After highlighting the node to chat with and hitting enter.

Ever since running Mystic Dos v1.05 I've used my Alt-C line chat ANSi when chatting users (chatinit.ans) Now I also use the Alt-S split screen chat as you know that ones called (ansichat.ans) Anyway, both work fine over here in Mystic 1.12 A33win 32-bit. It's kinda fun to switch things up and force chat using both screens.. After all, ansi-love is what floats my boat (:

The only one I know that likes to force chat users more the me is Caphood (:

I'd love a split screen chat on Linux through nodespy.

    What's the chances?
