    Hello,

I have recently done a few changes at my main system, where I have shutdown MYSTIC's NNTP server and replaced it for JAMNNTPD. As NNTP was the only
server that was managed by MIS (as I don't use SMTP/POP3 and Telnet is
already handled by MIS2), I did shutdown MIS for good.

After that, I started noticing that the semaphores were not working properly and mail was only flowing after I fired up MUTIL manually. I activated a POP3 server, and fired up MIS, and it finally went back into flowing.

Is it expected? I mean, does MIS need to be running for the EVENT subsystem
    to work?

Yes, MIS is needed to do those functions. If you want Mystic to work it has
to be running. It doesn't have to handle NNTP or any other functions which
are under servers (like ftp), external programs can handle those. MIS2 was experimental only and isn't as good or a full replacement for MIS yet.

Yes, you still need MIS for events.

mis2 is not complete. g00r00 is still transitioning them over.

That's interesting. I use the Linux build. There is a bug with the NNTP
server where it will crash. I hope it gets fixed soon and maybe just imported into mis2 anyhow.

I greatly recommend replacing Mystic's internal NNTP server with JAMNNTPD. Besides allowing you to effectively reply to people and not only to ALL, it seems to be lighter, and I have never had a NNTP crash after I did the replacement. Definetely worth a look.
